About the role
We're looking for a Senior Business Analyst to join us at HMNB Devonport, one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. We're a key strategic partner to our customers; the MOD and the Royal Navy. We ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely by supporting them in Devonport and around the world, delivering complex ship and submarine sustainment programmes and applying our core strengths of technology and expertise to sustain critical and complex assets to help maintain national security.

Business Solutions supports the IT needs across the Marine sector of Babcock. The Business Analysis function sits within the Business Relations part of the Business Solutions department. The Business Analysts are assigned to programmes, bids and projects to work with the business to understand and gather their business case and requirements.
The role is a full time permanent role with core flexible working hours. The role can be based at Devonport, Bristol, Rosyth or Faslane

Your main tasks will include working with Solution Managers and BRMs to Elicit business requirements for Programmes / Projects - understand business wants and establish needs and document as necessary. You will be working with and support the business on the production of the business case and quantify business benefits, carrying out stakeholder analysis understanding roles and involvement in the project.

You will also be working with development teams to perform a gap analysis on requirements vs solution, using business modelling techniques to develop current and desired scenarios as directed.

In addition to this you will be applying methods to identify user experience to ensure user friendly processes and selecting appropriate techniques for the documentation of detailed requirements, taking into account the nature of the required changes ensuring traceability back to source.

Further more, you will be; identifying opportunities to improve business process and/or systems within projects and liaising with the test function and business teams to determine evaluation and acceptance criteria for tests against requirements, running playback sessions with the business on requirements (for sign-off), playback of proposed technical design (acting as a bridge), track solution delivery meets business requirements and providing guidance to junior members of the team

What do I need to do the role?
You'll need to be experienced in use of modelling and analysis tools and techniques
  • Demonstrate a systematic, disciplined analytical approach to problem solving
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, comfortable working in teams and confident in dealing with clients/users
  • Understanding of importance of commercial constraints
  • Broad understanding of software development life cycle and IT delivery approaches
  • British Computer Society - International Diploma in Business Analysis
What else do I need to know?
  • You should hold or have the ability to obtain SC clearance
