Technical Specialist Architects lead the development of data platforms in our Centre of Data Excellence (CoDE), developing solutions for Data Architecture, Data Warehousing, Data Platforms, and Advanced Analytics.

You will be at the heart of the NCA, driving intelligence led approaches for threat assessment, use of data to identify serious organised crime and solve serious organised crime.

Technical Specialist Architects lead on new approaches to policing, supporting operational teams to work in new ways with data and tools.

Job description

Key responsibilities of the role include:

• Lead multi-functional team to advise, quality assure, develop and deliver strategic and tactical data services to operational challenges.

• Oversee architectural design aligned with strategic objectives and complies with statutory and relevant control strategies.

• Ensure the delivery of an effective and efficient departmental service.

• To represent the Agency at National and International forums as an expert in data platforms. Collaborate with leading data initiatives around government to develop shared approaches.

• Provide advice on tactical options and evidential opportunities to assist the planning of investigations and operations.

• Manage organisational change activity and effectively plan and communicate data led approaches.

• Act as designated lead on data assignments across the agency.

• Lead on professionalization of use of data and provide guidance and assistance to internal departments and partner agencies on data science.

• Manage/coach staff and develop staff in new ways of working with data.

• Oversee the quality, secure handling and dissemination of data/information, in line with Agency policy.

To be considered, you will need to be able to successfully complete DV clearance upon entry.

You may also be required to undertake a mandatory pre-employment substance misuse test and achieve a satisfactory result.
 

Responsibilities

To be successful in this role you will have strong architectural skills combined with areas of deeper knowledge of technologies and practice, broad understanding of data management, and strong stakeholder and consultative skills.

Expertise in data platforms and advanced analytics, working with data fabrics. Designing solutions in cloud or intelligence environments. Security and regulatory provisions.

Experience Criteria:

• Experience in an Architecture role specialising in Data Architecture, Data Platforms and Advanced Analytics leading within an IT Change/Transformation programme.

• Experience in practicing data architecture in projects and programmes.

Additional Information

• Strong leadership qualities are important to us and we are planning to undertake a leadership review of this grade across the Agency in the coming months. Depending on the timing of appointments for this campaign new joiners may be in scope.

• The NCA is a 24/7 organisation and working patterns must support business requirements. You may occasionally be asked to respond at short notice or outside of core hours but this it is not an essential requirement to do so

• On occasions officers may be required to travel throughout the UK and overseas.
