OVERALL PURPOSE

Responsible for the Commercial Management of all contract related commercial activities, ensuring compliance with Contract Terms and Conditions, Company and Group Policies & Procedures, Delegated Authorities and agreed Business Plans and Strategies. Ensure that the contract portfolio is effectively managed and targeted to deliver or better the agreed contract margins and cash projections, whilst mitigating business risk and commercial exposure. The role will be a key support role to the Head of Commercial and operational heads of department

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES OR MAIN TASKS

  1. Participate as a member of the Commercial Management Team in developing, formulating and implementing Corporate and Commercial strategies, policies, plans and budgets and in monitoring the Company's performance so as to ensure the corporate mission, goals and targets are achieved.
  2. Critically review Contract Programme performance to ensure compliance with all Company and Group Commercial and Financial procedures, including:
    • Revenue and profit recognition,
    • Cash collection and management,
    • Legal and contractual risk / opportunity management,
    • Sub-contractor management,
    • Partnering and supplier management
  3. Co-ordinate and manage the preparation / defence / resolution / settlement of any claims and / or variations raised by or levied against the Company, and ensure compliance with all Company and Group Policy with regard to the notification and evaluation of risk and / or opportunities, and the engagement of suitable legal representation where required.
  4. Develop and implement Commercial plans to meet or exceed annual revenue, profit and cash collection targets.
  5. Ensure that all contract and sub-contract final accounts are carried out in accordance with the conditions of contract.
  6. Ensure that business strategy is fully communicated both internally and externally to maximise potential business opportunities - always having due regard to any commercially confidential elements or sensitivities that may exist within such strategies.
  7. Ensure through advice and monitoring that Company Policies and Procedures are implemented and that the core values of the Company concerning people are upheld especially those concerned with fairness, equal opportunities and work-life balance.
  8. Establish and provide a professional quantity surveying service, to lead and direct all aspects of the business Commercial Management Process, including the implementation of systems and processes required to capture information to measure and value the financial and physical performance of contracts, and to be responsible for the preparation, content and presentation of all reports required to document and record the status of same.
  9. Develop and maintain a collaborative approach within the contract portfolio, in line with ISO44001 principles where required
  10. Regularly attend Contract work-sites providing clear and visible Commercial Leadership to the Contact Management and Delivery Teams.
  11. Ensure that all members of the programme Commercial team have agreed performance objectives and receive performance development guidance in line with the overall business plan and their personal requirements

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  1. Qualifications
    Essential:
  • Professionally qualified Quantity Surveyor or other appropriate discipline
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Over 5 years post qualification experience of Commercial management with evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Effective communicator and skilled negotiator at all levels.
