About the role
We're looking for a Trainee Configuration Engineer to join us at Portsmouth Lakeside, close to one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. We're a key strategic partner to our customers; the MOD and the Royal Navy. We help to ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely by supporting them in the UK and around the world, delivering complex ship and submarine sustainment programmes and applying our core strengths of technology and expertise to sustain critical and complex assets to help maintain national security.
The role will involve learning the requirements for maintaining the data within the M inistry of Defence Surface Ship Definition Database ( SSDD ) application against approved technical information and specifications. This means you would learn how to undertake configuration status accounting tasks which involves the extraction of configuration data from the approved technical information to ensure the SSDD is maintained with the right data at the right time. Training activities will include how to interpret technical data from drawings, specifications and other technical publications, comparing to the data held in the SSDD and updating it as required. The role will also include development activities to understand the Ministry of Defence Surface Ship stakeholder community, their requirements and how they can both provide for and utilise the Configuration Status Accounting Service provision. The role includes ensuring self-management of undertaking tasks against priorities in processing the source data material to meet customer key performance indicators.

What do I need to do the role?
You will need an ONC or equivalent academic qualification as well as an understanding of the importance of Health & Safety.
You must also be able to communicate effectively (written and verbal) and be able to build positive and effective relationships.
Finally, you will require knowledge of IT tools (e.g. Microsoft Office)
