Role: Senior Project Manager 

Reports to: Lead Project Manager

Primary purpose of the role: to manage and control the delivery of a range of internal and client projects across Capita Employee Solutions business areas, in accordance with the documented quality standards and the agreed plan.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage any project assigned to you
  • Produce and maintain project management control documentation required for the effective initiation, delivery and closure of each project ensuring PRINCE2 and Capita Group Project Management Methodology is applied where appropriate
  • Identify resource requirements, ensure that resource is mobilised and  all Work Stream responsibilities are clearly communicated to and agreed by all parties
  • Co-ordinate the delivery of the project by ensuring all Work Streams have taken the appropriate action to complete the tasks efficiently within specified time scales at an agreed cost and to the required quality levels
  • Ensure that project plans are baselined and regularly updated enabling projects to be completed efficiently within specified time scales, to budget, scope and quality, as defined in departmental standards
  • Proactively manage changes in project scope using agreed change control process as defined in project documentation
  • Ensure Governance Frameworks and Stage Gates are enforced
  • To establish and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders, ensuring accurate and timely reporting and any other relevant project information, detailing progress against the agreed plan, highlighting key risks and issues to project Stakeholders
  • Record project risks and issues, report these appropriately and manage these to successful closure, ensuring you:
    • Identify and report breaches immediately to your line manager and/or the Operational Risk and Compliance Department as appropriate and plan and implement timely effective corrective action to prevent recurrence
    • Plan the effective mitigation of risks, devising appropriate contingency plans and escalating to your line manager where necessary
    • Identify the root cause of issues and plan and implement timely effective corrective action, including invocation of change control where appropriate
  • To monitor the project costs against the agreed budget
  • Conduct project Post Implementation Reviews to review the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems and controls and make recommendations to enhance service delivery, improve processes and reduce potential complaints and business risks
  • To participate and proactively contribute to the continuous improvement of the Departments processes, procedures and templates
  • To provide bid documentation, including Project Plan, RAID, resource and cost estimates
  • Participate in any sales/new business or existing client presentations

Essential Criteria:

  • Pension experience is essential
  • Prince 2 certified
  • Strong Excel skills – ability to build/utilise Pivot tables etc

Desirable “Day-to-Day” experience required:

  • Full 360 Project Lifecycle experience – from implementation to completion of projects, including handovers (various project experience - not just in the same project for years)
  • Strong Stakeholder Management – proven ability to demonstrate strong engagement when implementing projects
  • Prior experience of Budget Management –  effectively managing costs and ongoing spend control
  • ITIL and Six Sigma knowledge is beneficial
  • Team management – recruitment, mentoring, reviews experience
