My client, a world leader in missiles and missile systems for the defence sector, requires a Navigation Algorithm Design Engineer to join them in Bristol and work as part of a team to develop, research, test and evaluate navigation algorithms that integrate into a wider complex weapon solution.

The Navigation Algorithm Design Engineer will be responsible for development of specific algorithms or studies to support key programmes, including concept studies, algorithm design and trade-off studies, trials preparation, trials analysis and reporting, architecture definition, algorithm and model validation. The role is stand-alone but will be a point of contact for interaction with other project teams e.g. Simulation and Modelling, Software, Hardware-in-the Loop, Systems Design & Validation and Technical Quality. You will perform technical analyses and investigations into a full range of issues and problems, preparing and developing solutions either individually or with the team. You will engage with algorithm users, understand and respond to their needs and ensure that the algorithms are fit for their intended use.

To be considered for this role, applicants will need to be PhD qualified or have strong, relevant industrial experience combined with a good Degree in e.g. Aerospace Engineering, Control Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics with strong mathematical content.

You will need to have relevant experience of Navigation Algorithm design and strong programming skills (including Matlab), real-time implementation, validation & verification and navigation experience. Relevant experience (ideally Post-Doctoral or industrial), with the state-of-the-art navigation algorithms, comparative evaluation and testing is a strong advantage.

You will ideally have knowledge and experience of some of the following:
*Inertial Navigation
*Aided Navigation techniques, for example but not limited to,
*Global Navigation Satellite Systems
*Terrain Referenced Navigation
*Image Based Navigation
*Radar and LADAR imaging
*Opportunistic Navigation / Signals of Opportunity
*Data fusion techniques
*Kalman filters
*Non-linear filtering
*The MathWorks products - specifically Simulink, Embedded MATLAB and Stateflow
*Model Based Design
*Configuration management
*Requirement Management e.g. DOORS and Rhapsody
*C, FORTRAN and Ada

It is possible that you might be undertaking some of these activities in one of the following disciplines/sectors: avionics and aerospace, computer vision, robotics, autonomous systems, the mobile phone industry, the GNSS industry or similar and we would welcome applications from individuals in those areas.
