Job Details

The UK Financial Intelligence Unit (UKIFU) sits at the heart of the international response to money laundering and terrorist finance. It has responsibility for receiving, analysing and disseminating Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs), from the private sector, taking action on these reports and disseminating to partners. It provides the intelligence “engine room” for law enforcement action against money laundering and terrorist financing.
The UKFIU is expanding its analytical function and international outreach. As such regionally-focussed posts are being created which will lead SARs work in relation to specific areas. We are looking for a high quality individual to focus on Gulf-related money laundering.

This role will have oversight and understanding of SARs intelligence relating to the region at a strategic level and undertake analysis to identify tactical opportunities for UK law enforcement. This role will also handle international requests for financial intelligence to and from countries in the Gulf region on behalf of the NCA and wider law enforcement and will require the development and maintenance of proactive partnerships with those FIUs, and strong connections to operational and strategic teams in the UK. The post holder will be the expert on SARs intelligence relating to the region.

Job description

• Develop an expert understanding of SARs intelligence relating to the Gulf Region.
• Analyse and identify tactical opportunities for UK Law Enforcement Agencies.
• Handle international requests for financial intelligence relating to the region.
• Develop and maintain partnerships with other FIUs.
 

Responsibilities

• Experience in intelligence handling and understanding of intelligence gathering capabilities and information management

• An understanding of economic crime and the illicit finance landscape including good understanding of relevant legislation (UK and international) affecting UKFIU activity.

• Relationship management and partnership skills.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience of assessing information, conducting analysis and presenting results.


• Experience of criminal justice and law enforcement techniques, investigative strategies and prevention initiatives.

• Accreditation such as a Financial Investigator or Financial Intelligence Officer, or relevant experience in analysis and conducting or supporting the development of financial intelligence and financial investigations is desirable.

This post is offered either as a permanent position or on secondment. The post is based in London. London Weighting of £3,339 will be paid to permanent staff. Secondees will be subject to their home organisation’s terms and conditions.
