The National Cyber Crime Unit is the UK lead for tackling the threat from Cyber Crime.

The National Cyber Crime Unit is responsible for coordinating activity across a range of partners and providing specialist cyber support and expertise across law enforcement.

Working on a national and international level we respond in fast time to rapidly changing threats. This is done using innovative approaches and ground-breaking techniques to target cyber criminals causing the greatest threat.

National Cyber Crime officers are looking to implement a step change in the UK’s overall capability to tackle Cyber Crime, supporting our partners both in industry and Law enforcement to better protect themselves against Cyber Crime.

Job description

NCCU have multiple G5 Research & Development roles within our London Office.

Sitting within the NCCU Cyber Engineering Unit, the team provide tactical support to operations investigating high-end serious and organised crime, developing new capability, supporting online operations and providing analysis services.

The Research and Development Team is looking for motivated and innovative individuals with strong technical competencies and an ability to use a range of digital forensics techniques to assist in the fight against cyber crime.

Responsibilities

To be successful in this role you will support NCA/NCCU operational work through the research and development of innovative and cutting-edge technologies supporting cyber investigations.

Key Responsibilities
• Respond to critical incidents and crimes in progress in a technical investigative and advisory function.
• Develop specialised skill sets in order to become ‘Subject Matter Experts’ in cyber-related areas.
• Provide technical support and create bespoke technical solutions to
• NCA/NCCU operations and investigations including real-time support in time-critical situations.
• Work with internal and external partners, across government and industry to build relationships, ensure best practice and explore new ways of working.
• Create bespoke technical solutions to solve real-time investigations.
• Look to continuously improve cyber investigation capabilities in order to keep pace with the new and developing threats.
• Participate in implementing and developing new cyber forensics methods.
• Provide technical advice and guidance to other Law Enforcement partners.

Please Note:
The successful individual will need to have a valid SC Vetting clearance at the point of entrance or be willing to take and pass the Agency’s vetting clearance process at SC Level. While in post, there might be a requirement for the candidate to be DV cleared

Individuals will be required to undertake and pass a substance misuse test as part of pre-employment checks.

Qualifications

Essential Criteria
• Candidates will be familiar with reverse engineering techniques or experience with cryptanalysis.

Technical skills

We'll assess you against these technical skills during the selection process:

  • Knowledge of programming languages (e.g. Python, Java or shell scripting) and networking
  • • Creative and innovative problem-solving and research skills
  • Familiarity with reverse engineering techniques or experience with cryptanalysis
