Atkins is a people business. We know that our success is due to the hard work and dedication of our worldwide team of experts. From our offices in the UK, Europe and around the world we seek technical excellence and innovation, with the goal of exceeding the expectations of our clients on each and every project. We are proud to have created a collaborative culture and continuous learning environment in which our people thrive, and we’re always looking for talented professionals to join our team.

On this occasion we’re inviting you to join us as a Supply Chain and Contract Resource Lead to oversee and guide the Aerospace, Defence, Security & Technology (ADS&T) division in getting the best possible performance from its supply chain partners, associate and contract resources.

ADS&T operates a variety of projects for our clients, either at their sites or in our offices. Our main locations are Cheltenham, Bristol, Aldershot and London, with the majority of our delivery activity in the south west, so the role would ideally be based in Cheltenham or Bristol, but travelling to other locations as needed, and making full use of technology to support our operations.

Supply Chain and Contract resources include all categories of temporary workers, including agency workers, associates, contractors and sub-consultants. While the majority of the ADS&T work is undertaken by employees, we are reliant on a significant proportion (around 220) of contract resources to bolster our teams or take on defined work packages.

The ADS&T Supply Chain and Contract Resource Lead will be responsible for:

  • Being the focal point for all matters related to supply chain and contract workforce management. You will provide advice and guidance to our teams and promote knowledge sharing and lesson learning to ensure continuous improvement. Advice and guidance will include establishing the relevant contracting route and subsequent considerations (eg outcome based, subconsultant or time hire).
  • Interfacing with the Central Contingent Workforce Team (CCWT) to funnel ADST requirements and monitor performance.
  • Ownership of the ADS&T Supply Chain and Contract Resource strategy and plan.
  • Oversight of the relationships with our key suppliers.
  • Being the Point of Contact for selection interviewing of contract resources and onboarding, including liaison with assignment teams to ensure successful deployment.
  • Guiding and engaging hiring managers to ensure appropriate standards are achieved, and relevant processes followed.
  • Maintaining situational awareness of the marketplace for the ADS&T-typical supply chain and contract resources to better inform the business and associated activity.

You won’t be alone in this, as the role will report to the T&D Practice Resource Manager and will operate in conjunction with:

  • Practice Resource Managers who will provide input on the resource demand forecasts and potential need for supply chain packages or contingent workers to fulfil some of that demand;
  • Hiring Managers who will identify the need, specify the requirement, and undertake interviews where relevant;
  • Framework and Assignment Managers who will oversee delivery and undertake the day to day engagement with the workers or supply chain partners;
  • Atkins’ Central Contingent Workforce Team who are responsible for the recruitment and management of contingent workers across the Atkins Group and process the contractual documentation;
  • Commercial who will advise and guide on the contractual templates and relevant terms and conditions.
  • HR.

As this is a new opportunity you will be empowered to shape the role and define your key objectives to support both the overarching people strategy and your own personal ambitions.

This opportunity would suit someone who takes pride in maintaining service delivery within a fast-paced environment, enjoys variety in their working week and wants to contribute to the success of growing organisation.

What would we expect from you to deliver this role?

We would expect you to have a significant amount of experience and proven track record in both the selection and management of supply chains and contract resources.

We would look to you to be able to demonstrate a thorough understanding of employment, contract and tax legislation relating to the engagement of temporary and contract workers -including the Agency Workers regulations and IR35 rules (however would note that we have the benefit of a UK Tax Manager for the provision of advice and guidance).

In addition, we would expect you to have a sound commercial understanding as well as experience of managing the performance of suppliers.

The ability to interact effectively with people at all levels within and outside the organisation, and establish high standards and influence others to achieve them is essential.

Most importantly we would expect you to have the drive and ambition to take on our supply chain and contract resource challenge and help us improve.

In return?
If you choose to join us you’ll be working with people who thrive in a strong team environment and are committed to doing more than what’s expected to provide exceptional solutions for our clients. Your contribution will be valued and you’ll be offered a competitive salary, flexible benefits and structured professional development opportunities in return for your hard work.
Closing date for applications is 8th November with interviews being held w/c 11th and w/c 18th November in Cheltenham.
This is an initial 12 month fixed term contract.
