Service & Calibration - Measurement Scientist

Location: Reading / Basingstoke area

This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to and manage projects for the design, characterisation, procurement, installation, commissioning and in-service support of radiological instrumentation here at AWE. You will act as a Technical Lead, to provide radiological metrology services using RI&C Calibration facilities.

It is expected that you will maintain current knowledge of all applicable procedures, legislation and safety measures as well as providing technical advice and guidance to customers and stakeholders daily.

To be considered for these roles, you must have an HND/Degree/Chartered or equivalent level of knowledge in engineering plus industrial experience.

We would be interested in hearing from candidates with knowledge and or experience in any of the following:

  • Nuclear physics, radiation detection and its applications

· Working with analytical instrumentation, numeracy, handling large volumes of data, critical analysis & report writing

  • Ability to provide routine calibration, measurement and characterisation of radioactive reference standards and instruments, safe practices in a laboratory environment
  • Working to ISO 17025 & MoD JSP425 DefStan 05-055

You will also be required to:

  • Ensure the RI&C processes are maintained to comply with company Environment, Health, Safety, Security and Quality Standards

· Carry out the duties of Qualified Person (QP) in accordance with requirements of the Ionising Radiation Regulations 2017 (IRR17) & MoD JSP425 in the areas of responsibility defined in the QP letter of appointment

· Ensure that high levels of housekeeping are maintained within the laboratory

· Willing to co-operate and work within a team environment

Candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role and be willing and able to work in designated areas.
