We are currently looking to recruit a G5 Infrastructure Engineers in our London, Warrington or Leicester sites (One of which has to be in Leicester)

The Operational Capability and Development and Targeted Intercept Engineering teams sit within Capability Development in Technology Command.

Capability Development’s new approach was created as part of a recent restructuring, which is:

- Overall coordination of the agency’s investment strategy and roadmap for capability development and skills growth.

- Deployment of hi-end capabilities in support of live operations, providing NCA with capabilities for 21st century law enforcement.

Capability Development leads on specifying, designing, developing, delivering and supporting new technical capabilities (operational, business, back office and corporate) across the agency.

Job description

Key Responsibilities

In a team of IT professionals, the infrastructure engineer will be using their skills and expertise to:

- Support the development, maintenance and enhancement of technical capabilities.

- Participate in building new services on multiple platforms, maintaining core functionality and providing technical guidance for colleagues across the Unit.

- Install, upgrade and support technical hardware, operating systems, software and peripherals.

- Provide support of incidents, problems and configuration and change processes which affect the infrastructure.

- Conduct application support – to include investigation and analysis of application issues, replicate issues on test systems and investigate databases and/or code to identify faults and produce/test proposed solutions.

- Provide technical advice and guidance to colleagues on software tools and applications.

To be considered, you will need to successfully complete an SC Enhanced clearance before commencing the role and achieve DV clearance within six months. You will also be required to undertake a mandatory pre-employment substance misuse test and achieve a satisfactory result.

The role is also available on a secondment basis.
 

Responsibilities

To be successful in this role you will need to assist in the 1st and 2nd line support of technical systems to a professional standard and to meet user requirements.

You will provide assistance in maintaining and upgrading technical systems in line with technical projects and aid the support of technical networks and infrastructure.

You will be able to demonstrate the technical criteria set out below:

- Cisco network infrastructure - dealing with support, maintenance and upgrades

- Windows infrastructure – dealing with 1st and 2nd line support, maintenance and upgrades.

- Networking infrastructure – dealing with support, maintenance and upgrades.

The following criteria is essential for the role:

- In-depth understanding of IT technologies and software packages.


One or more of the following is desirable but not essential for the role:

- Good understanding of ITIL V3/4

- MCSA

- ICND1 or CCNA.

Additional Information

The NCA is a 24/7 organisation and working patterns must support business requirements. You may occasionally be asked to respond at short notice or outside of core hours but this it is not an essential requirement to do so.

- On occasions officers may be required to travel throughout the UK and overseas.

- NCA are able to offer these opportunities on a permanent and secondment basis.

You could be deployed to work on any type of investigation, including, but not limited to child sexual abuse and exploitation, cyber or financial investigations.

Technical skills

We'll assess you against these technical skills during the selection process:

  • Cisco network infrastructure - dealing with support, maintenance and upgrades
  • Windows infrastructure - dealing with support, maintenance and upgrades.
  • Networking infrastructure - dealing with support, maintenance and upgrades.
  • In-depth understanding of IT languages, web technologies and software packages.
