Our client, the Ministry of Defence (through the Aurora Engineering Partnership), are seeking an Engineering Manager – Submarine Production Team to join their team. The role will be based at MoD Abbey Wood, Bristol, BS34 8JH. The role requires SC clearance and candidates must be a UK National.

Requirements are scheduled to run until 31st March 2020. This is a competitive tender and there is therefore no pre-defined price attached to this role. We suggest that a rate of £380 - £480/day will be competitive, however please approach us if you have different requirements.

IR35 STATUS: Inside IR35. The MoD have indicated then intend to operate the engagement as Inside IR35. Candidates would be required to operate through an umbrella company on this engagement.

The Role

The post will be embedded in the Joint Reactor Team; a joint team with BAES, Rolls Royce and MOD, to provide support as an intelligent customer function for Astute Class submarines Nuclear Steam Raising Plant (NSRP) build.  The primary responsibility is working directly with BAES and Rolls Royce within the build system of work, particularly with respect to managing the progressive maturity of key reactor build activities and milestones dependencies, issues, risks and opportunities. 

Main Responsibilities

  • Review and update the Submarine Production Team (SMP) Reactor Project Management Plan, identifying the key risks and mitigations to achieve contract adherence and material readiness in line with the nuclear hold points and key reactor build milestones.
  • Oversee MOD owned NSRP build risks, opportunities and uncertainty. Monitor/review and constructively challenge BAES owned risks, opportunities and uncertainties.
  • Identify the SMP deliverables, including GF*, JTTE and Contractual requirements, updating the SMP reactor PMP appropriately.
  • Attend all relevant BAES NSRP reviews and meetings that support governance requirements of the Astute Programme Reactor Project Management Plan (PMP)
  • Monitor/review and constructively challenge BAES compliance and adherence to the NSRP PMP.
  • Contribute towards maintenance of corporate knowledge through accurate record keeping, lessons learned (LFE, Post Project Evaluation) and proactive management of processes.
  • Provide occasional ad-hoc guidance to SMP Nuclear team on the SMP Reactor Project Management Plan and the Astute Programme Reactor Project Management Plan.

Candidate Eligibility

Candidates must be eligible to work in the UK, this role will not offer Visa sponsorship. Tier 2 – General visas are cannot be accepted.
