About the role

As the General Foreman you will be working within the Cavendish Nuclear team onsite in the Culham Science Centre. Cavendish Nuclear supply mechanical and electrical, control and instrumentation, piping, civil engineering, process and building services and robotics to various facilities within the Culham Science Centre. This is a really interesting and complex site that offers the opportunity to be able develop your knowledge further as new facilities continue to expand.

As the General Foreman you will report to the site manager and ensure that all suitable records of progress are produced and submitted to the site manager. You will help to allocate site labour and resources to work with the needs of the project. You will be delivered in recording and delivering weekly toolbox talks, ensuring that all Cavendish Nuclear and Agency personnel are aware of and sign all relevant method statements and risk assessments.
Your role will also involve;
  • Record any problems encountered during the site works and notify the Site Manager of the details at the earliest opportunity.
  • Ensure compliance by Cavendish Nuclear personnel with the requirements of the relevant method statement and associated documents and related legislation.
  • Communicate with all levels of labour under his/her control on any aspect of the company's business which may be appropriate.
  • Promote communications between those under his/her control and other groups on the site in order to ensure the site is working in a most efficient and effective manner possible.
  • Liaise and communicate with the client and/or contractor on any aspects that are appropriate.
  • Ensure that only suitable qualified and experienced personnel (SQEP) are used for the work in hand.
  • Ensure that suitable Risk Assessment (including the Point of Work Risk Assessment) have been carried out, prior to commencement of work, in accordance with the requirements of the appropriate, site specific Health, Safety and Environmental and Welfare Plan (HSEW plan)

What do I need to do the role?
  • Qualifications and Experience,
    HNC (or equivalent) in Engineering or ONC with an approved apprenticeship,
    Ideally, 10 years experience, over a range of Engineering topics, in a supervisory role,
    IOSH Managing Safely HNC (or equivalent) in Engineering or ONC with an approved apprenticeship,
  • Experience, over a range of Engineering topics, in a supervisory role,
  • IOSH Managing Safely
  • Good people skills to communicate with all personnel onsite and ensure they are working safely.
What else do I need to know?

  • All applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK and be subject to satisfactory security clearance which includes 3 years reference checks. Verification of any qualifications/passport/licences must be shown at interview stage.
  • The working hours are Mon- Thurs: 7.30am- 4.30pm and Friday: 7.30am- 12pm.
