THE OPPOTUNITY

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Your daily role responsibilities with our company will be as follows:

  • Direct 1st level fault resolution on Switching Elements to sectors, sites and the Service Area routing cells.
  • Assist the lead engineers in providing Level 2 and 3 support for the managed transmission infrastructure services, particularly network management, system maintenance and engineering support on related NGCS, DCIS and AirC2 Link 1 components and associated networks and their interfaces, applications and protocols.
  • Provide on-line network management to cover fault, performance, accounting, configuration and security management of services provisioned via transmission components of NGCS and AirC2 Link 1, mainly in legacy TOM and secondary IP/MPLS.
  • Advise on fault diagnosis throughout NATO sites utilising a number of management platforms (e.g. HP Network Automation, Netscout, lntermapper and Splunk).
  • Ensure that, on Switching elements, remote routine maintenance throughout NATO sites is undertaken.
  • Coordinate with sites to implement networking elements centralisation, standardisation and standard methodologies.
  • Liaise and collaborate internally throughout the NCI Agency Service line infrastructures and to external organizations for fault rectification activities. Assist in the development and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures within the Transmission and Infrastructure Services Cell.
  • Configuration and evaluation of test scenarios within the NGCS Reference Facility, pertinent to the area of Switching and Network configuration problem resolution.
  • Operate and develop management tools and capabilities.
  • Ensure a common understanding of the available toolsets and method of utilisation within the centralised and distributed user base.
  • Provide engineering assistance in preparation of Engineering Change Proposals (ECP), operational advice notices, system / equipment configuration, interface standards and procedures as requested and upon each and every change within managed services and systems.
  • Develop change configuration proposal packages, as directed.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

If you have passion for the work described above, here are the basic qualifications we are looking for:

  • Degree or equivalent work experience in related field supplemented with C4ISR domain qualifications.
  • Experience of CISCO Routing and Switching Elements or similar manufacturers.
  • Experience with the configuration and operation of HP Network Automation or equivalent network automation and orchestration systems.
  • Experience with the configuration and operation of Network Monitoring and Event Management systems, ideally lntermapper, Spectrum, HP OpenView and Splunk.
  • Experience working in a centrally managed network environment.
  • Proven experience in the use of an Incident Management System such as BMC.
  • A high level of knowledge of network, system and application level troubleshooting techniques.
  • Knowledge of communications protocols and practical experience of using diagnostic test equipment.
  • General knowledge of modern communications systems such as IP/MPLS, DWDM technology.
  • Extensive knowledge of implementing and operating LAN technologies (e.g. HSRP, STP, Switching, VLANs, DHCP snooping, ARP Inspection and Port-Security).
  • Working knowledge of operating network authentication and authorization systems and technologies (e.g. Secure ACS 5.x, ISE,802.1x, 802.1ae, MACSEC, RADIUS, TACACS+).
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience in implementing/commissioning network equipment and participate in projects delivering network capabilities.
  • NATO Secret is acceptable as a mitigation until Cosmic Top Secret (CTS) status is achieved.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Prior experience of working in an international environment comprising both military and civilian elements.

  • Experience in all aspects of maintenance, repair, and operation of large complex multi-vendor IP communications networks and related equipment.
  • Experience with IPv6 network technologies and concepts.
  • Experience implementing and operating a multi-tenancy network environments (VRF, VLAN).
  • Familiarity with Thales TCE 621 family IP Cryptographic Equipment or similar Military Grade IP Encryption devices. Experience with IP Oiffserv QoS in Networks.
  • Understanding of Firewall Technology and Concepts.
  • Familiarity with Application Performance Monitoring Solutions such as Netscout.
  • Familiarity with Performance Management principles, metrics and tools (e.g. MRTG, IPSLA).
  • Valid/active Alcatel Lucent Network Routing Specialist II (NRS II) or higher.
  • Valid/active Cisco Certified Networking Professional (CCNP) routing and switching or higher certification.
