Police Community Support Officer

Employer
Leicestershire Police
Location
Leicestershire
Salary
£18486 - £22275
Closing date
13 Dec 2019

Work as a police community support officer (PCSO) can be very exciting, as each day brings new challenges. You will be involved in the fight against a range of crime and disorder problems.

PCSOs will patrol on foot, in uniform, to provide a highly visible policing presence in communities. PCSOs will get to know their allocated area and its residents and will focus on long-term problem solving to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour in their area.

Whist patrolling, PCSOs will deal with incidents they encounter and will be responsible for enforcing law on the streets, calling on police officer colleagues where needed.

Just some of the tasks PCSOs might encounter on a daily basis include:

Contributing to the regeneration of local communities
Increasing public safety
Dealing with truants, graffiti, abandoned vehicles, litter and missing persons enquiries
Helping to support crime victims
Controlling crowds at major events, such as football games or concerts

The early intervention of PCSOs can often deter people from committing offences, and can contribute to stopping minor problems from turning into something more serious.

PCSOs must be able to communicate effectively and calmly in difficult situations and offer comfort and reassurance to the public.

Eligibility Criteria:

Candidates must be 18 years old

Hold a full manual driving licence for cars and be willing to drive a vehicle owned by Leicestershire Police (Reasonable adjustments will be considered in line with the Equality Act 2010)

To be educated to GCSE Grade C/Level 4/5 in English Language or equivalent, or to be able to demonstrate use of English Language to that standard

Candidates must be available to work between 8.00am to 11pm, seven days a week

Candidates must be willing to patrol alone, including lone patrol during the hours of darkness

Sufficient fitness to patrol the streets on foot or bicycle for long periods of time and in all weather conditions

Prior to starting your online application, you may find it useful to read our application guidance document, which can be found on the PCSO page of the website.

The closing date for the vacancy is on Friday 13th December 2019 at 23:55
