Job description

You will work to support the Chief Investigator to deliver a highly effective investigatory function for the business. This is an important role and as an experienced investigator you will be responsible for ensuring high profile cases are progressed more effectively and align with investigatory processes and practices. You will support the Case Assurance Framework and bring to the attention of the Chief Investigator cases that are progressing well and issues of strategic or operational concern by way of independent assurance (peer review).

Your analysis of the approach taken in our investigations will inform risk based decisions by the Chief Investigator and General Counsel to help guard against inter alia, investigative drift and a lack of focus and pace that will help promote earlier charging decisions.
 

Responsibilities

You will be expected to identify areas for improvement and make recommendations to help strengthen investigatory methods and procedure, case strategies/plans and investigation standards. You will be expected to identify good practice and work with the Deputy Chief Investigator (DCI) and Principle Divisional Investigators (PDIs) to endorse and promulgate good technique(s) and Authorised Professional Practice across the Office to encourage consistency of approach and the delivery of high quality investigation work. You will also be responsible for identifying investigator training needs from across the office then contributing to the design and implementation of investigator training initiatives.

You will be expected to work in conjunction with internal stakeholders to enhance operational capabilities and specialist investigatory resources. This will include: reviewing and assuring operational policies and procedures; enhancing the investigation training syllabus; advising on investigatory activities governed by RIPA, IPA, PACE, CPIA and other legislation; contributing to wider corporate initiatives such as professional standards inquiries and the development of investigators.

Experience

• A comprehensive and demonstrable knowledge of (criminal) investigatory practice and the criminal justice system.
• Significant experience of operating in an investigation environment in relation to complex economic crime.
• Demonstrable experience of effectively influencing internal stakeholders at a senior level.
• A proven ability to work with others at all levels.
• Broad experience and a good understanding of information and operational security.
• Demonstrable leadership skills.

Technical
• Minimum PIP 2 trained or equivalent

Experience
