Job Details

The Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit (MCU) is part of the Joint Protective Services Directorate with responsibility for the investigation of major crime across the tri-force area. The MCU is based from two hubs: in the south at Hertfordshire Police Headquarters, Welwyn Garden City and in the north at Cambridgeshire Police Headquarters, Hinchingbrooke, Huntingdon. In addition to investigating homicide, the MCU has responsibility for a variety of investigations including attempt murder, stranger rape, crimes in action and child sexual exploitation and abuse.

The post holder will be part of a dynamic team who are responsible for conducting a range of reviews in relation to major crime investigations, multi-agency Serious Case Reviews and Domestic Homicide Reviews. The post holder will need to be able to analyse detailed documents, interrogate computer systems, interview staff, work within strict timescales and compile accurate reports. There will be a requirement for the post holder to represent the organisation at multi agency meetings where such reports will be subject to scrutiny & discussion. There will be occasions where the post holder will need to travel to complete their work including across Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire & Hertfordshire and beyond.

The successful candidate will ideally have PIP level 3 accreditation, or will have previous experience of leading / managing major or serious crime investigations. If not already trained the post-holder will be required to attend a Review Officer course.

This is a part-time post of 18.5 hours per week. (0.5 FTE) There may be occasion where working hours can be increased but this will be on an ad-hoc basis and not part of the individual's contract. The actual hours and days work will be subject to discussion with the line manager.
