About the role
Here at Babcock International we're looking to recruit a Portable Appliance Tester working within Defence Systems Technology (DST), Bristol. DST is a business unit in the Marine & Technology Division of Babcock International Group.
You will work as part of a professional team, to undertake Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) as directed by your Line Manager (LM) primarily in the UK, but occasionally overseas, to required quality standards and in accordance with legislation and national guidelines.

Primary Responsibilities:
• Undertake PAT as directed, primarily but not limited to, desk top installations, data centres and portable appliances.
• Accurately record test data using industry-standard test equipment.
• Provide support in the preparation of documentation as required - method statements, risk assessments etc.
• Accurately attach appropriate labelling to tested equipment.
• Rectify minor faults by undertaking simple repairs at the point of test - i.e. replacing cables, fuses, plug tops etc.
• Be prepared to travel on occasion to other locations within the UK, including overnight stays.
• Be prepared to work on occasions outside of Core Hours as required.
• Follow health and safety guidelines, risk assessments and method statements associated with the role.
• Ensure Company health, safety and environmental procedures are complied with at all times.

What do I need to do the role?
You will need a basic understanding of the requirements for electrical equipment safety testing and of the hazards associated with working with electricity. You will need to demonstrate a methodical approach, following process and attention to detail as well as a basic practical aptitude sufficient to undertake simple repairs.

You will require the following:
• To possess or be prepared to attain City and Guilds 2377-22 Certification, for the In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment.
• To possess or demonstrate the aptitude to attain a thorough familiarity with the current edition of the IET Approved Code of Practice (ACoP) In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment.
• A working knowledge of electrical installations
• To possess or be prepared to attain the Emergency First Aid at Work qualification
• Sufficient IT literacy to operate test equipment, complete certification, timesheets etc.

What else do I need to know?
• The successful candidate must be able to achieve the appropriate security clearance level for this role.
