Job Details

As the Capability Management Process lead you will lead the delivery and assessment of Dstl’s Capability stewarding process outputs.
Stewardship means taking responsibility for the planning, management and overseeing of our Science & Technology (S&T) capabilities, basically what we are set up to deliver as an organisation. This goes beyond just our own internal capabilities and includes capabilities out in industry, universities and other partners.

To make this happen we need to understand the strategic direction for individual capabilities, assessing their health, future plans, risks and assurance activities. Ultimately making sure we’re on track now and for the future. You will be a key part of this.

So how does this role fit in to our work?

Understanding the health of the S&T capabilities we are required to steward is a key responsibility for Dstl. Our formalised process for stewarding S&T capability includes an annual assessment of capability health against the delivery requirements of our Strategy.

Leading a small team, you will monitor capability stewardship performance, capability health, risks and issues, providing the evidence for strategic decision-making at senior levels within Dstl and the wider Defence and Security enterprise.

Job description In this role you will be:

• Monitoring, reviewing and implementing changes to Capability stewarding processes by conducting appropriate assurance of Dstl’s related standards, policy and processes, with the engagement of the appropriate partners.
• Identifying areas for improvement and simplifying processes to use fewer resources. Using technology where possible to increase efficiency in our processes.
• Owning the design and implementation of the analysis and assessment for our capability management, and task leading a small team of analysts to deliver the function’s governance, assurance and reporting requirements.
• Developing an understanding of long-term health of Dstls internal and external science & technology capabilities.
• Working closely with partners across Dstl and DST to design and develop management information and key performance indicators for capability stewarding in order to ensure that a definitive and integrated set of Management Information is crafted.
• Coaching, mentoring and developing other colleagues to support succession planning.
• Providing guidance and support to teams within other Dstl divisions on collating and analysing their data to understand and govern capability stewarding activity across the organisation.
• Designing visually compelling data visualisations to meet Dstl reporting requirements.
