About the role
Here at Babcock International we're looking to recruit a Mechanical & Piping Department Manager to join our Liquefied Gas Equipment (LGE) Division. We design and supply cargo handling systems for liquefied gas ships/carriers across the globe. LGE is an incredibly innovative and diverse business with patented designs working with LPG, LNG, Ethane, Ethylene and new projects with CO2. Managing a team of up to 25 direct and indirect reports, you will manage the team's activity to ensure the successful execution of Mechanical & Piping Department tasks and manage design activities associated with marine liquefied gas handling plants, ensuring safe and economical design that satisfies client technical specifications.

Team Management:
• Manage workload to meet deadlines and report on progress of tasks/activities to the Manager of Engineering
• Interface with all Engineering disciplines, Project Management, Tendering and other internal functions to support the efficient delivery of project outputs and deliverables.
• Actively seek to anticipate and mitigate problems/difficulties.
• Ensure department compliance with company procedures whilst working to identify opportunities for process improvements
• Manage and support department work planning and resource forecasting
• Complete personnel related administration.

Technical:
• Review commercial technical bid offers and document schedules to ensure compliance with company best practices, and overall programme fit with respect to future planned workload.
• Monitor department compliance with Engineering Governance procedures and action interventions as required.
• Interface with the Strategic Development team so support the delivery of innovative new products and solutions to market.
• Deliver technical leadership in function design reviews with subsequent focus on ensuring the timely close out of actions as appropriate.
• Engagement with external stakeholders (ie Classification societies, shipyard and ship owner representatives, equipment vendors) as required, to understand first hand their technical issues and operational requirements to help serve customer focused innovative engineering solutions.

What do I need to do the role?
You will need to have previous experience in a Mechanical and Piping Systems design and analysis environment, preferably within the Oil & Gas Sector and have demonstrable team management and leadership skills with a solution focused attitude.

We would also like you to have knowledge of key engineering software packages and/or their operating principles in areas such as 2D/3D CAD, FEA, pipe stress analysis and vibration analysis. Also, demonstrable experience working with technical and commercial business functions to develop solutions and coordinate deliverables.

What else do I need to know?
• We are based at Rosyth, Scotland
• Competitive annual salary and excellent benefits.
• Permanent position, 37.5 hours per week; 7:00am to 15:15 Monday to Thursday and 7:00am to 14:00 on Friday.
