About the Role

Here at Babcock International we're looking to recruit a Design Information Engineer to work within a team that maintains a comprehensive record of all equipment fitted to Royal Navy submarines, an overview of all supporting and technical documentation, and oversight of all safety critical assets. We are looking for an individual to support both new-build platforms and the maintenance of existing in-service platforms.

You will be responsible for the provision of defect and data register support. Working alongside configuration and technical design and documentation engineers, you will also be working closely with Royal Navy and MOD personnel.

Primary responsibilities of the role will be to manage and maintain effective and efficient Whole Submarine Configuration Management.

Principal tasks and responsibilities:
  • To provide advice and engineering support on matters relating to the configuration account, specifically for submarine safety register, concession and defect management.
  • Undertake technical investigations in order to resolve errors & omissions received from Royal Navy, MOD and/or other internal departments.
  • Maintain and support maintenance of design information records (configuration, register and technical documentation.

What do I need to do the role?

You will preferably be qualified to ONC/BTEC Level 3 in a Science, Technical, Engineering and Mathematics discipline.

You will have experience in using engineering documentation (such as drawings and technical records) to maintain equipment configuration records, and a clear understanding of change management and the control of project and engineering documentation.

Whilst submarine or maritime design experience is desirable it is not a prerequisite, however, an ability to work independently, challenge the status quo and make judgments based on incomplete information is essential.

Grade

This position is within the Engineering Services business unit as a grade 3 which has a salary of £30,555 with DRDL Terms and Conditions.

This role is based in Keynsham, which is situated between Bristol (5 miles) and Bath (7 miles). The area has good accommodation, schooling and transport links. Bath in contrast has a cosmopolitan feel, boasting many theatres and stylish restaurants. Bath is famous for its Georgian architecture, and has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage site.
