Would you like to play a pivotal role in the Firearms Licensing Department investigating offences involving certificate holders and assisting in other firearms enquiries?

An exciting role has arisen for a PIP2 Police Staff Investigator to join the Firearms Licensing Department.

The role holder will be required to hold a current PIP2 accreditation or have previously been a qualified PIP 2 serious and complex crime investigator (ideally within the last 6 months).

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • To investigate all offences relating to certificate holders, Registered Firearms Dealers and approved shooting clubs under the Firearms Act and Explosives Regulations.
  • To provide operational guidance and support to the wider force where investigations involve firearms and explosives offences. In complex and sensitive cases, carry out enquiries in relation to the review of a person’s suitability to possess firearms and retain a certificate under the Firearms Act or Explosives Regulations.
  • Interrogate RMS, National Firearms Licensing Management System (NFLMS), PNC and other sources of material in order to identify certificate holders who have come to police notice which could result in the potential revocation of their firearm, shotgun or explosives certificates

Additional Information:

The role holder may be required to visit various locations within Hampshire and the Isle of Wight and must hold a current manual drivers licence and be prepared to take and pass a Force driving course to obtain authorisation to drive police vehicles.

The post holder will be based within the Firearms Licensing Department in Winchester but may be deployed to work anywhere within the current Hampshire Police Area.

Hours of duty are 07:00 – 18:00, Monday to Friday. Where there is a requirement to work outside these hours to meet operational needs, payment will be made at the appropriate rate.

Occasional periods away from home station may be necessary for operational or training requirements.
