This is an exciting time to be working as Business Design Manager for the Metropolitan Police Service Transformation Directorate.

In addition to shaping large-scale transformation, there's the unique and ever-evolving challenge of policing London. This means that as a Business Design Manager, there are more opportunities for you to get involved with making London the safest global city in a time of unprecedented change within the UK's largest Police Service.

The Business Design team includes individuals with a range of specialist skills and interests and is involved in a range of activities. Some of the key responsibilities include the following:

Provide direction and support to members of the Business Design team, overseeing and coordinating their work to ensure high quality delivery.

  • Provide technical expertise in business design

Support the setting of standards, guidance and processes for business design and delivery

Support the assurance of programme designs by the Business Design Authority.

  • Deliver business design outputs and deliverables

Provide expertise, guidance and hands-on support to programmes in business design and delivery.

Contribute to the design and delivery of thematic or cross-programme products, such as end-to-end customer journeys.

Contribute to the design and delivery of training in business design approaches.

Support activities to ensure integration in relation to business design and delivery across.

Programmes and with other TD and enabling functions.

  • Contribute to cross-functional transformation activities when required, working with other areas of the business as necessary.
  • Lead and manage

Develop and maintain relationships with:

  • Project Managers, Design Leads and project teams (including external consultants) to provide advice on design methodology and assurance on project designs.
  • The Business Design Authority (comprised of Senior Police Officers and Staff) to support the running of an effective and efficient design assurance process.
  • Relevant Operational and enabling functions (which may include Digital Policing, insights and intelligence teams, Operational Command Units) to obtain information, problem-solve and collaborate to reshape the MPS.
  • Head of IDD and line manager to support them in building the capability and capacity of the design specialism and its credibility in the wider MPS.
  • Wider TD to raise the profile of business design and provide advice and guidance on design methods.

Work closely day-to-day with their peers within IDD and in programmes where there is a need for integrated and collaborative working.

Lead and manage a team of individuals (staff and contractors) to ensure that the team provide quality outputs that enable programmes and the portfolio to achieve their outcomes.

Key Skills and Experience:

 Experience of leading and managing business design projects or teams [essential].

 Experience of working in a large and complex organisation [essential].

 Experience of influencing, negotiating with, and providing challenge to management-level stakeholders [essential].

 Experience of contributing to a collaborative culture team culture and an environment of continuous learning [essential].

 Experience of designing and/or implementing changes to an operating model [essential].

 Experience of working in policing, justice or related sector [desirable].

 Experience of designing and delivering guidance, policies/standards, and/or training [desirable].

 Working with and assuring the work of external contractors or consultant [desirable].

Qualifications:

 There are no mandatory qualifications. Training in one or more aspects of business design and/or business transformation (e.g. BCS) would be an advantage, as would familiarity with PRINCE 2 and/or MSP. Please note you will undergo a Competency and Technical interview process
