CUP (Common User Portal) Overview

The Common User Portal (CUP) service will allow all users will interact with the information, applications and systems that they need to fulfil their roles through a common digital interface that has, where possible, a consistent look and experience across all Defence Support services. The CUP will be based on standard design patterns that adapt to the users’ roles, context and the devices they are using and will provide an improved user experience.

The CUP will be de-coupled from the underlying systems, applications and data which enables those items to change and adapt as necessary with negligible impact on the users and processes being performed through the CUP.

CUP Scope

The CUP will provide its capabilities through a number of services across a range of channels (video, voice, email, text etc.) on different user access devices such as desktop, tablet and smart phone.

It is expected that the CUP will support, but not be limited to:

  • high and low bandwidth access to capabilities and services;
  • specialised content targeted at a range of elements (device, location and user);
  • intuitive interface matching user’s requirements and access methods;
  • single sign on method with authentication and identity management capabilities;
  • partner access;
  • omni-channel, multi-device access with a common look and feel; and
  • easy transition for each user across each channel.

It should be noted that the scope of the CUP would likely cover or require consideration of the integration or federation of portals, user customisation/personalisation, enterprise search, content management and the integration of analytics, dashboards and collaboration tools. It must also be cognisant of the non-digital elements that interact with Defence Support, including physical activities and assets, particularly with the Engineering elements of Support.

CUP Resource Requirement

In order to support the high level design and procurement activities of the above services we need an Service Architect, Solution Architect, or Specialist who has significant experience of similar implementations, and who can work within a team to define the system services.   They will also need to have practical “been there and done that” experience and expertise so that they can provide input to the vision and strategy for CUP. The CUP will also support an element of integration across legacy and new systems, so experience of this will also be helpful.

The candidate must be able to support the delivery of a set of requirements for Common User Portal (CUP) components that will provide trusted CUP services across all applications.

The role will work with a wider team of Architects, Analysts and SMEs and must be able to work in a fast paced and changing environment.

The ODL Service definition activities include:

  • An agreed scope of services corresponding to the requirements, based on previous tasking, stakeholder engagement, industry best practice and other sources;
  • A description of each of the services;
  • A list of anticipated interactions for each of the services, employing user stories and use cases to bring to life how the capabilities work for their consumers;
  • Capture of other information that may support the definition of the services such as: proposed SLAs and requirements, e.g.. performance and capacity; audit requirements; security requirements; proposed design patterns.
  • Workshops and reviews to agree the initial scope.

It should be noted that the scope of the CUP would likely cover or require consideration of the integration or federation of portals, user customisation/personalisation, enterprise search, content management and the integration of analytics, dashboards and collaboration tools.

Candidate Eligibility

Candidates must be eligible to work in the UK, this role will not offer Visa sponsorship. Tier 2 – General visas are cannot be accepted.
