About the role

Babcock's Engineering Services provides an integrated Joint Team to produce the shared In-service Submarines (ISM) and Combat Systems Support Group (CSG) outputs necessary to support Royal Navy (RN) Submarine safety and availability.

We are looking for a Senior Safety Engineer to join our Safety Services Group (SSG) in Keynsham, near Bristol/Bath. Whilst the role will be based in Keynsham, the post holder will be required to work occasionally at our customer's site in North Bristol as well as visiting Devonport (Plymouth), Clyde and supplier sites.

What do I need to do the role?

You'll need to be personable, professional and driven with the ability to engage people at all levels.

Would also like you to have:
  • Mechanical / Electrical safety engineering background
  • Academically qualified to HNC level or above in a relevant engineering discipline with significant relevant experience.
  • Professionally qualified to Incorporated Engineer level with an appropriate institution, or working towards this.
  • Ideally experience with submarine systems with an appropriate background in submarine design, support or operations (Desirable, not essential)
  • Experience in the application of Safety and Risk management techniques.

Key accountabilities include:
  • Support the Head of Department (HoD) in the management of SSG programme output delivery, including task / project identification, definition, delivery, cost control, resource management and stakeholder liaison.
  • Project manage/ conduct Safety Services Group projects as directed by the SSG HoD and Deputy HoD.
  • Provide safety management advice and support to the MOD and Babcock Marine (BM).
  • Provide advice and expertise on the assessment and management of safety risk to the MOD, Babcock Marine and Stakeholders as directed by the SSG HoD and Deputy HoD.
  • Assess and provide advice to the MOD on submarine material state issues by way of the production of submarine Safety Summary Reports.
  • Conduct safety assessment of design changes.
  • Provide technical review of contracted outputs to ensure the correct level of quality is achieved.
