Materials Characterisation Scientist

Location: Reading/ Basingstoke area

Closing date 9th September 2019

Would you like to use your skills to play a key role in improving the understanding of ageing phenomena of range of materials such as organics, inorganics and actinide metals? If so, the Materials Characterisation Team have a range of exciting opportunities available in instrumentation design for experienced hires.

Applying your expertise, you will work to increase understanding relating to the physical and chemical properties of a wide range of material types whilst simultaneously working alongside materials modellers to develop

predictive models to assess how these properties change with age.

We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates with experience or knowledge in the field of control and instrumentation, automation, data acquisition and sensors.

It is desirable that you are able to demonstrate the following:

· Degree level knowledge of a relevant scientific discipline

· Strong communication skills, verbal and written

· Broad experience of working with materials of different types including polymers, ceramics and metals

· Experience in a range of analytical techniques including electrochemistry, SEM, FTIR/Raman spectroscopy

Candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role, be willing and able to work in designated areas to working patterns.
