Role Summary/Purpose:
    This is a key role within the Engineering Ops team, working closely with a large number of project teams across the Avionics function, supporting successful project start-up, control of robust project plans and predictability of project delivery. Reporting into the Engineering Operations team, the role carries key responsibility for embedding planning standards, driving project start-ups, supporting robust baseline management, Earned Value Management and change control.
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Educate, coach, and mentor Engineering Programme and Project Managers and others on GE project Planning techniques and application
  • Lead and facilitate planning workshops for cross-functional project teams, supporting off-sites and leadership meetings as appropriate
  • Define, maintain and embed standard processes and templates, supported by effective quality and performance measures, in liaison with the Engineering Program & Project Manager
  • Provide training to the project management community, including Scheduling and Earned Value Management, to address skill gaps and drive ongoing performance improvement
  • Work closely with the Program Managers (PMs) and Engineering Project Managers (EPMs) to ensure that project planning is carried out in accordance with policies and procedures
  • Develop an Engagement Plan and Action List, tailored specifically to each project, to support the delivery of a robust Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) within an optimised cycle time
  • Perform regular project health checks as an independent reviewer
  • Review high level plan data, risks and opportunities, and Basis of Estimate (BoE) information
  • Agree the scope and deliverables expected from the engagement process with each project
  • Guide the project team in aligning the high level master plan and the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) to commence the build of the IMS
  • Lead the production of the planning process deliverables, including:
  • Master Schedule with milestones Detailed schedule networked, time phased, resource loaded and levelled
  • Critical path(s) and project resource profile
  • Performance Measurement Baseline Updates to Cost and Schedule Management tools Updates to Risk and Opportunities Register Activity Based Management (ABM) data for Control Account Managers (CAMs)
  • Support the preparation and delivery of inputs to the Tollgate approval process
  • Support the transition of the project plan into the Operational Rhythm
  • Provide ongoing support for baseline management, change management, and regular project monitoring and control activities
  • Provide support, mentoring and training for projects on effective cost and schedule management; and to the team of Project Controllers, to enhance the overall planning and schedule monitoring/control capability across the team
  • Ensure that all projects define and follow a clear and robust Project Management Plan, including regular schedule, financial, RAID and resource reviews
  • Analyse schedule trends and produce regular forecasts of schedule performance and issues for project reviews
  • Support the EPMs/PMs to ensure that through the engineering development phase of a project, milestones are consistently met in accordance with customer and programme requirements
  • Apply knowledge and experience to support project 'deep dives' and troubleshooting as required
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement and positive change, through regular process and project quality reviews
Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Extensive demonstrable scheduling experience
  • Project planning/management qualification(s) (Prince2, APMP or similar)
  • Significant experience in leading Project Governance and Project Planning
  • Recent practical experience of Earned Value Management
  • Proven experience of influencing and driving behaviours
  • Strong team player with proven group activity leadership skills
  • Ability to work on Military projects
