About the role
Here at Babcock we are looking to recruit a Mechanical Senior Designer.

You will be responsible for supporting and guiding a team of discipline specific Designers and assuring the quality of output is to the required standards. You are required to contribute to the whole lifecycle from concept through to in service support. The role requires a good understanding of engineering and design practices as relevant to the individuals discipline and the holder must be able to demonstrate appropriate CAD skills as well as good written and verbal communications.

  • Main focal point for checking of Designer team drawing outputs, in accordance with company and regulatory standards;
  • Allocation of discipline tasks to allocated team of Designers;
  • Inter-discipline co-ordination;
  • Advise and assist in selecting the correct methods and tools for tasks and provide technical assistance to allocated team of Designers;
  • Contribute to the preparation/production of drawings in support of basic, detail and production design in line with recognised ISO standards and to the required; time, cost and quality requirements;
  • Main discipline point of contact with professional engineering colleagues and various stakeholders during design lifecycle to ensure coordination and functionality of design, including contribution to design reviews;

What do I need to do the role?

You'll need a HNC minimum in a relevant discipline or equivalent academic qualification and demonstrable experience, completion of a recognised apprenticeship or equivalent experience, preferably working towards registration with the Engineering Council at IEng Level

You'll also require experience in leading a technical team, breadth and depth of experience in a range of commercial or defence projects, understanding of DMS Project environment and processes, detailed understanding of mechanical design processes applicable to Naval Ships, detailed understanding of mechanical installation processes applicable to Naval Ships including practices particular to MCM platforms, develop close technical relationships with Marine System Engineers and the Technical Authority and hold good customer engagement skills.
