About the role
Here at Babcock International we're looking to recruit an Assistant Project Manager to work in a leading defence technology company delivering a wide range of design, manufacturing and operational support projects to international defence customers. Our client's diverse project portfolio continues to grow with a strong focus on world class high integrity maritime, weapons and communications and intelligence solutions.
The company is looking for a driven and enthusiastic individual who has worked in industry to deliver products and/or services to achieve time, cost and quality targets. The successful applicant will join a diverse and dynamic team of project, engineering and other functional staff working together on an exciting project to deliver cutting edge technology solutions to the Defence industry both in the UK and overseas.
You will be responsible on behalf of the Project manager for delivery of the project in accordance with the agreed order. You will use engineering Bill of Materials (BoM) to generate, maintain and communicate schedules (MSP or equivalent) that will fulfil scope. Ensure requisitions, shop orders and purchase orders have been launched on-time to support successful delivery. Prepare or support Align project schedule with the Master Production Schedule (MPS) to confirm capacity. Use IFS to implement the planned scope and monitor and control work effort, ensuring that production activities are completed on time to support deliverables. Support delivery of project scope in accordance with HSE, quality and customer requirements. Support overall cost management by collation of accurate estimates, forecast to complete and strong monitoring and control of spend. Support the Project manager in the Identification, planning and control of risks and opportunities. Implement the agreed governance arrangements for the delivery of the project. Support good communication across all functions by creating a communication plan to support analysis of stakeholders and the planning and conduct of interactions to engage and communicate with them. Manage the Customer and Supplier interface to ensure timely delivery of the project scope and successful satisfaction of customer needs whilst maximising business value. Report progress to the project community and production function on a weekly basis
What do I need to do the role?
You'll should have or be prepared to work towards the APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ) [formerly known as APMP]
Would also like you to have experience in all or some of these areas:
  • Has worked in industry supporting delivery of a product and/or services
  • Has good knowledge of project tools and techniques including Microsoft Project (MS), Risk Management tools, ERP Systems and financial and resource planning tools
  • Is competent in MS Office
