This post will be based within the vicinity of J16 of M5, with the expectation of travel around the region and nationally as required in response to operational demands and to attend necessary meetings

The role will involve being the first line supervisor of a team of Technical Surveillance Officer’s (TSO) whilst also performing an element of the current TSO function. This may also involve the currently held on call element. The successful candidate will design, develop and deploy technical solutions, carrying out sensitive and covert deployments in both compliant and intrusive environments to tackle all levels of crime, supporting investigations in serious and organised criminality across the South West Region.

The post holder will deploy a diverse range of bespoke and commercial off the shelf equipment adapted to suit the operational requirement. This will include visual imagery, audio technology, technical observation points, static and discrete CCTV, asset tracking, and audio and data exploitation. A key part of the role will be to consult with Senior Officers in order to provide vital specialist tactical and technical advice, developing the strategic plan for sensitive operations and investigations to meet operational and investigative needs.

The SW ROCU was established in September 2010 to disrupt serious and organised crime across the South West of England. It is made up of the five forces in the region – Avon and Somerset, Devon and Cornwall, Dorset, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire – to work across the county borders. It brings together the capability and funding to gather intelligence, crack serious and organised crime networks and seize the assets of the criminals involved.
