Our Facilities Management Services (FMS) provide the organisation with a safe, secure, resilient & sustainable physical infrastructure along with the associated business services that enable our people to deliver science and technology in an effective and efficient manner.

A key component of our FMS function are our Building Managers who ensure our facilities are fit for purpose to allow our organisations vital work to continue. We are looking for two building managers to join our team and make an impact at Dstl.

The Building Manager Role

Working with in Facilities Management Services you will have the delegated authority to undertake Landlord duties for a work area on the Dstl Porton Down site including fixed assets and infrastructure. The work areas will be a collection of building and structures and can include: offices, laboratories, plant rooms, workshops, storage areas, storage containers, range (or part of a range), magazines or facilities.

You will be the delivery contact for the Facilities Management Supplier for the work area. This role will fulfill the 4C System Area Custodian duties (from JSP 375) for both routine, non-routine (e.g. shutdown) and emergency states ensuring the work area is managed safely, securely, resiliently and sustainably at all times for all users, contractors and visitors.

Who are we looking for?

To hit the ground running in this role you will need to have existing knowledge of working in a facilities and safety management environment. This can be from a variety of settings and backgrounds, however you will need to have a good understanding of managing in a multiple building location. Alongside this you'll have a desire to work with a team to deliver a professional facilities management service to multiple users in a high hazard environment.

What you'll be responsible for:

•             Ensuring fit for purpose space is available for all agreed activities required to meet business needs escalating prioritisation concerns.

•             Ensuring full compliance and maintenance of associated documentation relating to Dstl Policy, SHEF legal, statutory, regulatory and industrial requirements throughout the work area.

•             Minimising the collective risks within the work area by taking a holistic view of hazards, threats and vulnerabilities to ensure the operation of the building/work area is maintained within delegated safe working/operating limits.

•             Responsible for infrastructure and asset management including maintaining the work area infrastructure, fixed assets and designated open air spaces.

•             A Delivery contact for the FM supplier for their work area

•             Inspecting the work area and ensure defects and issues are resolved.

•             Complying with the Dstl Resilience and Emergency Planning processes including development of Emergency plans for each building and identification of critical systems and safety related systems.
