Job Details

We are currently looking to recruit Grade 5 Advanced Data Acquisition officers to join our Digital Forensics Team in Tamworth. 

The role holder will support NCA operational work through the research and development of innovative cutting-edge technologies, creating create bespoke technical solutions to solve real time investigation. 

To be successful in this role you will be able to work within an ISO-accredited laboratory environment to extract and process data stored within digital devices. 

Main responsibilities: 

• Develop and research software and innovative and emerging technologies supporting NCA operations 
• Participate in implementing and developing new cyber/ digital forensics methods 
• Provide technical support and create bespoke technical solutions to NCA operations, including real time and in time-critical situations 
• Participate in operations and investigations, carry out evidence and intelligence gathering and preservation in order to build knowledge of serious and organised crime via the use of information communications technology (ICT). 
• Conduct laboratory based forensic acquisition of items/exhibits in order to obtain optimum intelligence/evidence recovery from submissions, whilst ensuring the integrity and continuity of items by correct handling, storage and documentation. 
• Carry out digital forensic acquisitions in accordance with relevant legislation, best practice guidance, international accreditation standards and agency policies. 
• Provide specialist advice and guidance on a range of digital investigation related opportunities including but not limited to digital/cyber forensic examination 
• Conduct case management, and create, maintain and update departmental records, including operational or programme activity spreadsheets, case files and monthly reports. 
• Work to Quality Management principals in order to achieve and maintain appropriate regulated standards

Person specification

• An understanding of relevant best practice and legislation (UK and international law) affecting agency activity with a particular emphasis of those affecting digital evidence. 
• An understanding of computer and mobile operating systems. 
• Good understanding of data structures, file systems and associated protocols. 
• Basic skills in the disassembly and assembly of digital devices. 
• Keeping pace with advances in technology. 
• Experience of analysing information from a wide variety of sources. 
• Familiarity with reverse engineering techniques.
