Summary of requirement: We are looking to appoint someone on an interim basis who can support the Head of Research IT within the IT Service. This role will act as key point of contact to strategically influence and shape the future of the Research IT service within the client.

Summary of role:
Reporting to the Head of Research IT, you will be working with members of the clientp and other senior stakeholders and you will play a pivotal role in ensuring IT delivers on the client's strategic aims and objectives for research. You will be responsible for the delivery of significant improvements to critical research processes and services, through the implementation of world-class technology solutions. You will have the ability to influence and balance strategic priorities in order to successfully shape and align highly complex change through strength of leadership and partnership across research stakeholders.
Main deliverable:
1.Define the research collaboration operating model:
*Within a 6 month period define the ways of working, roles and responsibilities for establishing a partnership for working between IT Services and the wider community. This includes but is not limited to:
oDefine a partnership for working with both internal and stakeholder academic groups and incorporate the scoping, planning and operation of Research Software Engineers (RSEs) across the University.
oClearly document the vision for our Research IT service, and identify the opportunities to deliver University benefits through the provision of both commodity and specialist services.
oPut in place the engagement model to ensure operational leadership and governance is defined in the target operating model, with clear framework for supporting:
Prioritisation
Research ethics
Information security
Operational delivery.
oSupport the definition of the funding model to underpin the target model for Research IT, with clear measures and controls for generating income by working with Research Councils, charities and other third-parties.
oDefine the transition towards the target Research IT service, considering a gap analysis, maturity assessment, and ways of working within the current provision. This includes:
Defining the projects / engagement to deliver technical research solutions
Other key responsibilities:
2.Provide advice and guidance to the current delivery of technical research solutions:
*Provide high level analysis and technical scoping for the design and delivery of data-intensive research platforms, high-performance computing (HPC) and secure data services.
*Undertake high-level analysis and problem investigation to shape and scope the requirements for a future technical service.
*Identify quick wins and opportunities for IT Services to deliver value back to stakeholders.
*Identify opportunities to decommission current services.
*Work with internal development teams to ensure a consistent software development process for RSEs, with clearly-defined controls and governance to provide the necessary oversight for security and service transition.

3.Ongoing academic engagement and stakeholder management:
*Work with the Head of Research IT to support the academic consultation process, establishing Research IT Steering Groups to provide appropriate oversight for the work being undertaken.
*Work with other internal IT service providers and the IT leadership team to ensure an integrated and consistent approach to the delivery of Research IT.
*Provide support for communications and wider engagement regarding Research IT services.
You may have previous experience with:
*Working with UKRI and research funding bodies
*National research services (e.g. Archer)
*Standards (e.g. ISO27001; NHS DSPT; BS31111)
*Information Governance
*Research ethics
