About the role

We currently have opportunities for Mechanical Fitters to join our Fleet Engineering team at Babcock.

You will work within a team which is responsible for planned and reactive maintenance, defect identification and repair on mechanical systems aboard submarines and surface ships berthed at HM Naval Base Clyde. These include high pressure / low pressure air systems and hydraulic systems.
Applicants should be comfortable working in confined spaces.

The anticipated salary for this role will be £30,256 per annum.

What do I need to do the role?

You will demonstrate previous experience in Mechanical Fitter roles, preferably gained within a Marine Engineering environment. Experience in Submarine / Ship tag-out and operating procedures, maintenance technical instructions, nuclear procedures and acceptance standards would be advantageous. Key areas of competency we require are as follows:

  • SVQ Level 3 Mechanical Engineering / completed Modern apprenticeship or equivalent qualification
  • Experience of Maintenance Procedures, Risk, and COSHH assessments and Safe Systems of Work
  • Diligence and attention to detail when undertaking all tasks
  • Well-developed team working and interpersonal skills

What else do I need to know?

This role is based at HM Naval Base Clyde, located 6 miles north of Helensburgh in the West of Scotland. We are well placed for commuter links to Glasgow and the wider region, with easy access for car and public transport.

You may be required to work outside core hours and at locations other than HMNB Clyde when necessary.
