THE OPORTUNITY

We are actively seeking a highly personable and technically astute GIS SME. The ideal person for this role will have experience supporting geospatial services, data, exercises in addition to other duties within NATO, the MoD, civil service, the wider armed forces or a defence organisation. As our Contracting Assistant, you will be responsible for various tasks related to power equipment. This work is located in The Hague, The Netherlands and will suit those either already living there or willing and able to work within that location unencumbered. Sound like a great fit?

THE ROLE

Your daily role responsibilities will be as follows:

  • The Geospatial Services Branch requires support of a GIS SME to assist in the installation, configuration, administration (IT), and troubleshooting of NATO Core GIS.

  • Set up and support instances deployed during exercises

  • Install and configure on deployable infrastructure and platforms used for exercises and other NATO events. The installation takes place on-site at the location of the exercise/event.

  • Prepare geospatial data, load it on the system, and publish it in form of web services so that other NATO and National systems can consume it.

  • Provide support during exercise and NRF events at the exercise location.

  • Provide on-call Level-3 support (duty location The Hague) outside working hours, on weekends, and NATO holidays

  • Participate in exercise planning conferences and related preparation events representing

  • Provide Level-3 support for the static NATO network.

  • Fix and resolve incidents related to NATO Core GIS. Investigate and resolve system-wide fault conditions using diagnostic tools and techniques. Implement temporary workarounds.

  • Support problem management to identify and resolve the underlying root causes for incidents

  • Manage tickets and service requests related to Core GIS in the Incident Management System through their lifecycle.

  • Perform preventive maintenance on client and server equipment.

  • Operation and Maintenance of GIS instances

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks

  • Monitor (remotely) the system status on various sites.

  • Support the rollout of new baselines at various NATO sites via remote and on-site installation.

  • Develop and improve the installation and deployment mechanisms of the various system variants.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • You possess a degree or equivalent work experience in related field.

  • Professional knowledge of Esri ArcGIS server and client components and technology.

  • Professional knowledge in the area of geospatial information system, including geospatial data, data formats, and map preparation.

  • Professional experience with configuration of ArcGIS components for enterprise-scale GIS systems.

  • Professional experience in the administration of ArcGIS Server 10.x/9.3

  • Ability to travel within NATO countries to support at various static and deployed sites.

  • The duties require frequent travel to NATO exercise locations within NATO member countries (ANNEX A)

  • Language (Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing).

  • Fluent business English, at least meeting the English levels: SLP3322

  • Solid IT Background, proven through formal qualification.

  • Practical experience in the area of computer networks, networking architectures, web service based interaction, and network related components of operating systems, as it is required to identify and troubleshoot problems that occur in the underlying platform and infrastructure of a GIS system.

  • Practical experience in using virtualisation platform software, and working with GIS components implemented as virtual machines (VMs) in a virtualisation environment.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a NATO Secret Security Clearance
