Our client intends to consolidate and grow its position as a provider of research and research management in systems engineering and technology. That ambition is strongly supported by this role, which is positioned in the Technical Research area. The ideal person will have a track record of attracting funding and effectively delivering projects in that field.
You will establish reputation in the UK as the leading provider of industrialisation of fundamental research through to production, and management of research, including at universities; supporting the UK's Industrial Strategy to boost productivity and earning power through development of skills and technological innovation through to industry benefit;
Working established markets, including building on our extensive research portfolio in Defence and Energy and establishing a new portfolio in Transport To strengthen and maintain the ability to operate at the leading edge of technical advancement.
As part of your role you will be responsible for:

*To contribute to the development of the business research strategy in the specified sector and co-ordinate its effective implementation;
*To maintain a portfolio of sector research projects, including internal research projects, and to advise the business on the development and delivery of this portfolio;
*To lead and manage one or more other areas of Technical Research capability development.
*The effectiveness of their own contribution to the overall business via appropriate metrics;
*Achieving an appropriate return on investment in research in their research portfolio.

You will have the following experience

*An interest in, and the ability to engage with, the research community and its work for all of the services supplied
*An understanding of the research and research management market and funding routes in the UK, and how an engineering consultancy business can work in that context to the benefit of the business, the business's clients, and the owners of the funds
*Recent experience in winning and delivering research and research management projects which have benefitted industry
*The ability to form partnerships and supplier relationships in the academic field, and a track record which demonstrates this ability;
*An understanding of the constraints and requirements associated in working successfully with academia.
*The ability to articulate well and persuasively in public forums e.g. conference presentations
