Role Summary/Purpose:
    An exciting opportunity exists for a Human Factors (HF) Engineer to be part of our TLE team within the Avionics organisation. In this role you will perform a variety of HF tasks and help to drive in design and process changes to help improve the usability and quality of designs and robustness in a wide variety of complex avionics and power programmes. You will also help to grow capability in this area to satisfy emerging opportunities in the civil and military aviation, and industrial sectors.
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Provide HF support across all product/programmes and for all stakeholders
  • Review demand from bids and projects and develop tailored HF programmes of activities
  • Produce and deliver HF products/programmes in accordance with an agreed schedule and the TLE Programme Plan
  • Produce and deliver HF products/programmes using the guidelines of GE processes, contracted RM&T defence standards and other relevant international standards
  • Drive and manage the HF and Maintainability requirements and demonstrate the necessary compliance against them
  • Act as the Work Package Manager for the HF scope of work and be accountable for the delivery of high calibre outputs that are on time and within budget
  • Develop associated documents required to support the Human Factors based through life design assurance of products/programmes such as:
  • Maintainability Assessment Reports
  • MSG-3 Analyses
  • Assessments of the user interface and usability characteristics of products
  • Interviews or surveys of users / customers to collect information on topics such as requirements, needs, fatigue, ergonomics or interfaces
  • Summary reports or presentations summarising the results and conclusions of human factors engineering activities such as testing, investigation or validation
  • Provide human factors technical expertise on topics such as user interface technology development, or the role of human users in both automated and manual aircraft systems
  • Ensure relevant industry standards e.g. RTCA DO-372, TC-16/56 and SAE ARP 5364 are adhered to through the design and development process
  • Ensure a culture of best practice and share knowledge within project teams, helping to coach and mentor junior members of the TLE team
  • Proactively seek out and share best practice in HF to ensure continuous improvement and consistency
  • Assist in the development of the HF strategy for the Avionics and Power organisation within GE Aviation Systems
Qualifications/Requirements:
  • A degree in a relevant disciple such as Engineering. Mathematics or Physics or equivalent knowledge or experience
  • Experience working as a HF Engineer on commercial and/or military platform projects
  • Be able to work within multi-discipline teams and steer the stakeholders and products/programmes
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written)
  • Experienced in technical writing in accordance with TLE / HF relevant standards (both defence and general industry
  • Experienced in HF analysis techniques to support the design and development of systems
  • Awareness of applicable HF standards such as HF-STD-001B, TC-16/56, SAE ARP 5364, and RTCA DO-372

Desired Characteristics:
