About the role

Here at Babcock International we're looking to recruit two Principal Combat System Engineers. You will sit within either our large team of highly experienced engineers that support In-Service Submarines for design changes and equipment support OR you will be a key part in the Concept Design of Combat Systems for Surface Ships.

Using your experience as a professional engineer you will support at a principal level to all activities as directed. You will m anage risk across all projects and support the engineering management and delivery of all allocated Combat Systems work.

You will be engaged in the delivery of our existing and evolving business, which is focused on delivering the right outputs, to enable our customer to realise their desired outcomes and support the development of effective working relationships with other UK Combat System industry players within the Combat Systems Enterprise.

What do I need to do the role?

You'll need to have a background in Naval Architecture, Marine, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or other Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) related backgrounds, be an effective problem solver, being able to balance theoretical assessments with pragmatic solutions.

Would also like you to have experience in all or some of these areas:
  • Demonstrable knowledge and practical experience of Maritime Combat Systems and MoD working practices.
  • Knowledge and experience of naval platform / system / equipment safety, design, operation and support management including combat systems.
  • Knowledge and experience of management in a project, operations, approval or authorisation environment.
Lastly, you'll need to be degree qualified in a relevant engineering based discipline or HND, Foundation Degree with relevant experience. You will need to be Chartered Engineer status or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) with relevant experience and a member of relevant professional engineering body.

What else do I need to know?

  • The successful candidate must be able to achieve the appropriate security clearance level for this role and will also need to complete a medical assessment
  • 37.5 hours per week, Mon to Fri with flexible working.
