The Role:

This person will work within a shared services IT team that are responsible for delivering IT services to the General Dynamics Enterprise and in particular be the subject matter expert for the compliance and operational security tenets associated

Initial primary responsibility will be to deliver operational support, monitoring and evaluation of vulnerabilities to meet the security requirements and needs of General Dynamics UK in line with shared service obligations, customer, Government, Corporate and GDUK policies and standards.

Ensure compliance with the above standards and practice 

It is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to get involved at a grass roots level of technical security monitoring and SOC level responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

The individual will have relevant security expertise and will possess a technical skill set covering several of the following key areas:

  • In depth understanding and experience of network security evaluation tools and techniques.
  • In depth understanding and experience of system security evaluation tools and techniques.
  • In depth understanding and experience of system hardening processes and techniques.
  • Understanding and experience of forensic acquisition processes, examination tools and techniques.
  • Understanding and experience of intrusion detection/prevention systems and ability to analyse output
  • Provide technical security input into relevant parties to assist in local policy and standards generation.
  • Triage various security feeds and eliminate false positives prior to escalation into GDUK Cyber Security technical resources for further investigation.
  • Knowledge and expertise in supporting and handling scrutiny of controls/compliance from internal and external audit bodies.
  • Proactive identification and reporting of future cyber security threat/risks to the operational environment. Ability to work to defined parameters and existing methodologies in areas such as management reporting and service level agreements.
  • Experience of diverse infrastructures, operating systems, wireless technologies, networking, secure design, vulnerability scanning and web application security etc.
  • Be self-motivated and able to work across multi-disciplined IT and Security teams.
  • An ability to articulate technically complex security risks and issues to non cyber security staff and across IT teams.
  • An ability to travel to sites across the UK on an infrequent basis if required.
  • Collaborate with GDLS-UK IT, GDMS-UK IT and external providers on the design of all proposed system implementations to ensure all areas of IT risk and compliance are captured and responded to
  • Support forensic examinations of IT systems in the event of identified incidents
  • Develop, review and maintain an operational day to day technical audit capability in which a clear and concise visibility of risk associated with the operational environment can be ascertained

Education/Experience:

Technical knowledge in one or more of the following areas:

  • ITIL / Problem Management for security incidents
  • Understanding and knowledge of working in a SOC and liaising with the office of the CIO
  • Experience of working with: Solar Winds, Nessus, Tacas, Sagan, Symantec toolset
  • Understanding of AD,  Mcafee, Vcentre
