The Opportunity

An opportunity has arisen for a Head of Manufacturing - NPI and CSS Programmes to become an integral part of the Manufacturing UK Senior Management Team, responsible for providing a manufacturing solution/capability to support the full product lifecycle; from future system design to in-service support.  You will be responsible for managing the manufacturing related activities including transition to Series Production. Planning and Leadership of associated resources, to enable delivery of projects on time, on cost, and on quality You will also drive a positive leadership culture that develops and embeds a strong vision, challenges the status quo and provides an innovative approach to the leadership of teams and manufacturing operations.

  • Ability to build and maintain excellent trusting business relationships across all levels within and outside the business
  • Strong belief and drive to live the MBDA values and embed this throughout team
  • This role holder will need to currently have or be willing to undertake Defence Vetting (DV) Clearance
  • This role will require the successful candidate to spend at least three days per week in Stevenage

The Role
  • The role will require multisite and multidiscipline leadership combined with high levels of stakeholder interaction
  • Responsible for on time, to cost delivery of development manufacture and CSS manufacturing related activities
  • This role will need to reconcile the need for demanded development hardware whilst ensuring improvements for series production
  • The role will need to establish a view of future development manufacturing across MBDA
  • Opportunity to get involved in future technologies and methodologies to future proof UK Manufacturing
  • To provide Leadership and direction across all activities relating to Manufacturing design, development and delivery to ensure UK Manufacturing capability is fit for purpose and best positioned to meet future demands
  • A requirement of this role will be to leverage strong partnerships and work closely with Senior Management stakeholders to manage the cross functional demands and challenges between design and manufacture
  • Provide exceptional leadership ability to deliver a high performing and effective team, embedding a performance culture whilst positively motivating and developing all team members.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement using best practice lean processes to increase productivity and reduce operational costs
  • Lead initiatives designed to achieve greater efficiency, productivity and cost control
  • Synthesise complex business issues, communicate them succinctly and formulate recommendations and action plans
  • Promote and maintain awareness and compliance of relevant governance and regulatory requirements associated within the Manufacturing environment including areas such as. Health & Safety, Quality Control, HR and Finance.
  • The team size is approximately 160 and will range from skilled shop floor through to executive graded engineering and project management individuals.
  • A level of interaction and management will also be required outside of the Directorate where a key interface will be into Chief Engineers, Technologists and Business and Performance Managers.
  • There will also be a level of upwards management required to ensure buy in/support for new ideas, technologies or capabilities/skills whether that be internal or outsourced.
