Role Summary/Purpose:
    As a functional head of our Engineering team you will be working within the Power Distribution element of our business here at the GE Aviation campus in Cheltenham. Reporting to the Power Engineering Leader you will be responsible for developing functional strategy in line with business priorities, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and growing our engineering talent.
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Establish organisational, team and individual priorities aligned to technical and business objectives
  • Provide process and execution leadership for engineering teams with their functional domain to ensure schedule, cost and quality adherence
  • Perform strategic workforce planning to determine the resource requirements for current and future projects
  • Develop and execute a resource strategy for provision of appropriate capabilities to enable successful project execution, including engagement of global sites and make vs. buy decisions
  • Define roles and responsibilities within assigned organisation
  • Conduct performance management and participate in salary planning
  • Promote professional growth of staff through ongoing coaching and mentoring, training and performance feedback
  • Support Project Teams in major technical, program or customer reviews, ensuring teams within assigned functional area are appropriately prepared and actions are worked diligently
  • Develop and lead productivity initiatives to achieve efficient working across assigned functional areas, and meet business productivity objectives
  • Support other functional managers within product domain, develop long term strategy for the functional area of expertise, including building on synergy opportunities across the organisation
  • Maintain industry understanding of trends, new technologies and advancements within the discipline. Work with technology teams and chief engineers to build technology roadmaps
  • Ensure effective communication of technical, organizational, resource, personnel, and business information across their organisation
  • Support the sales organisation in the execution of bids and proposals. Develop technical proposals that leverage GE's product and technology development, and are competitively costed
Qualifications/Requirements:
  • STEM related bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college or equivalent knowledge or experience
  • Clear engineering career progression, demonstrating a solid technical background
  • People Leadership experience with strong interpersonal skills and effective communication
  • Established project management skills with demonstrable ability to lead Engineering programmes through life cycles
  • Demonstratable experience of working and delivering within Lean thinking concepts
  • Ability to effectively present technical information to non-technical stakeholders
