Sopra Steria Recruitment is working in partnership with a major Public sector client in the UK. We are currently recruiting an Cloud Solutions Architect for an initially 12 months contract based in Edinburgh.

Title: Cloud Solutions Architect

Location: Edinburgh

Contract Duration: 12 Months initially with possible extension

Job Spec:

Role purpose

To provide hands-on technical leadership to our platforms development team, while ensuring alignment with broader strategic architectural direction. Act as a conduit between the platform team, and the Design Authority and other delivery teams, helping define and refine best practices, standards and architectural principles.

Main duties of the post

• Leading the design and implementation of our migration to Amazon Web Services
• Advising development teams on best practices for utilising AWS native features (such Lambda, API Gateway and Step Functions)
• Advising infrastructure focused teams on best practices for integration of the on-premises infrastructure with AWS
• Engage with the technical leadership groups around best practices for managing resources on AWS.
• Lead the deployment of Openshift onto AWS in order to provide a PaaS solution to compliment the serverless deployments.
• Producing and reviewing architectural design documents for proof of concepts and production architectures.
• Championing ideas/changes/designs that you and/or the team believe are beneficial, influencing key stakeholders where appropriate
• Ensuring an appropriate level of design documentation is produced and updated
• Coach and mentor junior staff.
• Shape and lead technical options assessments to help create an IT landscape that supports and enables the business.

Essential criteria

• Expert knowledge of AWS serverless approaches, the Well-Architected Framework and container orchestration
• Significant experience of working with AWS Organisations and multi-account deployments
• Significant experiences in the management of serverless deployments
• Familiarity with handling governance on public cloud (e.g. implementing NCSC Cyber Essentials Plus, CIS20, etc.)
• Significant experience in a technical lead role
• Practical experience of introducing new efficient processes or concepts in the development environment
• Ability to work with the business and other delivery teams, to understand the context, and to focus on delivering value
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Experience of mentoring team members
• Experience working in an agile environment
