Role overview

Systems Engineer, with an electrical and/or avionics bias to work in the electrical and avionics design team to plan, support and execute all stages of lifecycle management relating to development of Electrical & Avionics Systems.

Reporting to the Head of Systems Engineering, Electrical and Avionics and working closely with the Technical Director and the system specialists, you will systematically plan, capture, analyse and define the requirements for the electrical and avionics systems and equipment for the air vehicle and support the development of requirements in other departments.

The successful candidate shall take responsibility for applying system engineering practices to capture requirements from a wide range of stakeholders including customers, regulatory bodies, operators, maintainers and management personnel in addition to managing the validation and verification activities for the electrical and avionics systems.

The ability to produce and/or review System Safety Assessments (SSA) and Functional Hazard Analysis would be an advantage. Experience in using a modern model based systems engineering tool is a requirement.

There may be opportunities for the successful candidate to become one of the company's EASA Compliance Verification Engineers and/or a Flight Test Engineer.

Candidates having skills and experience which exceed the specified job requirements may also be considered.

Other accountabilities include:

  • Establishing and maintaining Systems Engineering Management, Integration, Verification and Validation plans.
  • Supporting the establishment and maintenance of Certification Plans.
  • Capturing requirements from a range of sources including hazard studies, existing specifications, airworthiness standards, operators, maintainers and management personnel.
  • Evaluating requirements to establish whether they are consistent and complete and their relative priorities.
  • Partitioning of requirements into individual sub-systems such that the overall system and safety requirements can be met and specified.
  • Evaluating architectural design solutions against performance criteria to provide a safe, technically and economically viable solution.
  • Specifying the system architecture and developing Item Specifications.
  • Liaison with, and monitoring of, equipment suppliers.
  • Accepting items for integration as well as Performing Integration, Verification and Validation activities at Equipment, Sub-System and System level.
  • Supporting the establishment and maintenance of certification summary/compliance reports.

Key skills, knowledge and experience include:

  • Aerospace engineering degree, or equivalent experience, with emphasis on avionics and electrical fields.
  • Proven experience in the aerospace industry working in a Systems Engineering role and Safety Critical Systems.
  • Knowledge of Software and Complex Electronic Hardware development processes. Configuration & Data Management.
  • An awareness of CAA/EASA/FAA certification procedures.
  • Excellent verbal communication / negotiation skills with people across the whole business at all levels.
  • Highly computer literate with a high standard of written English.
