Babcock support customers around the world to improve the capability, reliability and availability of their most critical assets within the key market sectors of Marine, Land, Aviation, and Nuclear.
 
The purpose of the role is to provide project management delivery support to one or more Projects or Programmes within the Babcock IS team. Line managed by a senior delivery manager (PMO Manager or Portfolio Manager), and on a day to day basis, reporting to one or more Project Managers (PMs).
 
Job Responsibilities
 
Project Management Office Support:
Get to understand the project delivery process through supporting the PMO
  • Support continuous improvement activities through documenting changes to project delivery processes
  • Support cross-portfolio project assurance activities
 
Project Manager Support:
Learn how projects are run through supporting an experienced project manager
  • Support the PM in setting up then tracking progress against the project plan
  • Provide analysis support to identify and maintain project data including stakeholders, sites and assets.
  • Manage project control processes on behalf of the PM including issues and risks management, change management, resource management, requirements management and financial management.
  • Maintain project / programme information via sharepoint sites
  • Raise purchase orders
  • Provide admin support to project / programme meetings, for example weekly project meetings and monthly programme boards. Duties to include meeting scheduling, material submission, minutes, actions recording and tracking
  • Ad hoc reporting for PM as required
 
Project / Workpackage delivery:
Build your knowledge of project management through personally delivering workpackages of projects or standalone small projects.
  • Liaise with internal suppliers to create project plans in the Microsoft Project Server tool; track progress against schedule and financial baselines
  • Provide customers with project or workstream reports
  • Set up then execute project controls according to Babcock IS standards
 
Any other duties as deemed necessary to achieve department goals. 
 
Person Specification

Qualification and Experience:
  • Educated to minimum of Level 3 (A-Level or equivalent) with A-C/9-4 in GCSE Maths and English or the Functional Skills equivalent.
  • Experience of Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Demonstrates passion for supporting customers

Attendance Required
This is an apprenticeship delivered through Highbury College, Portsmouth. Attendance one day per week will be required to complete the qualification. An assessor will attend the workplace every 8 weeks to assist with the completion of the work based training consisting of written assignments, professional observations, discussions a multiple choice exam and a 3 hour written exam as well as a final end point assessment/discussion. The apprenticeship qualification will last 15 months.
 
Travel Requirements
 
  • Occasional travel may be required with some overnight stays away from home.

Interview and Assessment
You will be contacted by Highbury College concerning your application. If successful you will invited into an Assessment and Interview Day at Babcock offices in Portsmouth (Last 2 weeks in July). This day will consist of group and individual tasks as well as an interview.
