About the role
Here at Devonport Royal Dockyard we're looking for Marine Reactor Fitters to join the team that is at the forefront of supporting the Royal Navy fleet. You'll play an integral role in ensuring the serviceability of warships and systems through detailed maintenance and refit periods.
Working on reactor systems and equipment associated with the power plant for Royal Navy nuclear submarines, you'll provide hands on engineering support within a multi-skilled team environment. You'll remove, install, repair and maintain reactor systems and equipment on board submarines and in dedicated workshop facilities.
This will include working within the reactor compartments of submarines and within controlled radiation environments. Using engineering drawings and technical specifications, you'll overhaul and test a variety of mechanical and electrical equipment, which could include lighting, distribution, command and control systems , fluid systems, valves and pumps among other things.

What do I need to do the role?
You'll ideally have relevant nuclear experience either directly with submarine reactor systems and equipment or within the nuclear power generation industry. Experience in the marine industry with Royal Navy submarines, ships, Royal Fleet Auxiliary vessels or large commercial ships is desirable.
Additionally, you'll need to hold at least one of the following qualifications:
  • Indentured Apprenticeship
  • Level 3 Modern Apprenticeship in an electrical or mechanical discipline
  • Armed Forces PO/CPO/NCO with an electrical or mechanical specialisation
  • Level 3 Mechanical or Electrical qualification

What else do I need?
  • Cleared to SC security level (can be applied for if not held).
  • Already registered/ willing to become a registered radiation worker
  • Willing to undertake specialist onsite training relevant to role.

The role generally requires shift working which attracts a premium on top of basic salary. There are also additional payments for working within radiation areas.
We offer a competitive salary, where you have the opportunity to increase your earnings through shift and overtime allowing you to potentially take home around £35,000 annually. Alongside this there is a contributing pension scheme of up to 8% employer contributions. In addition to a competitive salary and a hugely rewarding career in a great South West location, you'll receive additional benefits which make your new role all the more appealing including:
  • 25 days a year annual leave + bank holidays
  • 3 days unpaid leave each year
  • 13:30 finish on a Friday for industrial employees
