Do you have an inquisitive mind and keen interest in various computer systems with an understanding of file systems, file formats and databases?
Dstl's Document and Media Exploitation team, part of the UK Defence Exploitation Facility (UKDEF), is looking for a Forensic Digital Analyst to help recover and exploit information from captured media to provide actionable intelligence for the wider intelligence community.

In this role you will:
• Work with your team and other capabilities to provide timely technical exploitation of media items and documents returned from military operations.
• Engage with customers (both internal and external) to understand requirements in the context of their working environment.
• Conduct forensic analysis of electronic and paper media.
• Deliver high quality technical information in an agreed format that is clear, concise and understandable by both technical and non-technical team members and customers.
• Support yourself and your colleagues through difficulties, challenges and traumatic incidents.
• Maintain accurate case notes and supply reliable information to databases.
• Provide advice to customers to ensure they are able to make informed decisions.
• Work closely with other capabilities, to systematically identify links between cases and other significant pieces of intelligence and provide these insights to customers and colleagues
• Provide reports and briefings at UK DEF progress meetings and customer visits
• Actively plan workflow to meet cost and schedule requirements
• Occasionally participate in off-site visits providing technical advice and input.
• Continually develop your professional expertise and awareness to ensure that you remain an expert in your capability.

To succeed in this position you'll have;
• An understanding of the digital forensic examination processes of mobile telephones and digital media.
• A high level of computer literacy, particularly in the installation and configuration of commercial software packages and competent use of MS Office (Access and Excel).
• Analytical skills involving both hardware and software and using open-source technical information.
• Excellent organisational skills.
• Good information management skills.
• Knowledge of computer forensic tools, such as FTK, X-Ways, Cellbrite and XRY.
• Knowledge of various data file formats and computer file management, including basic IMPEX operations between computers.
• A resilient and robust mental attitude, able to cope with difficulties associated with viewing disturbing material
• A desire to continuously improve working practices, tools and techniques
• The ability to encourage and support others to embrace change and develop their skills to better meet future challenges.

You'll need a Degree, or equivalent level, in a subject such as computer science, computer forensics or cyber security. Certified training and experience in digital forensics, particularly mobile phones will be an advantage.
You must have a resilient and robust mental attitude, able to cope with difficulties associated with viewing disturbing material.
You'll also need the ability to support yourself and others through difficulties, challenges and traumatic incidents.
