Mechanical Team Lead - Weapon Systems

We currently have an opportunity for a Mechanical Team Lead for Weapon Systems, based in Stevenage.

As a Mechanical Team Lead you will be responsible for the delivery of all mechanical activities (Design, Development and Proving) within a multi-disciplinary equipment team whilst providing support and guidance to a team of experienced and less experienced staff taking responsibility for their development and the development of engineering tools and processes associated with the mechanical design of weapon systems.

Your job role and responsibilities will include:

Planning, leading and control of engineering processes and activities to ensure delivery to agreed business need.
Develop, maintain and control the technical interface to customers, suppliers and collaborators to ensure effective and swift resolution of technical issues and to deliver defined support and other contractual commitments to customers.
Oversee the development of specifications and the preparation of complex and business critical engineering designs.
Manage assigned budgets and associated risk.
Manage and report against the team's work programmes, including analysis of risk, to ensure the team delivers its accountabilities.
Coaching/Mentoring - support to staff members.
Promotion cases - support to sector lead in identifying/managing talent.
Define and communicate team goals/objectives, give clear vision for the team and explain how each individual contributes to achieving that vision.
Nurture a spirit of teamwork and celebrate team successes.

It is essential that you have the following Qualifications and Skills:

Ideally Degree/HND/HNC qualified plus significant experience of leading teams to deliver significant mechanical engineering work packages.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal with the ability to influence and negotiate with stakeholders across the business
Have the awareness and understanding of cultural differences with the ability to adapt accordingly.
You will have a willing, helpful attitude, a calm professional manner, and the ability to assess and set priorities and deal with multiple issues on a regular basis.
An understanding of structural/thermal/dynamic analysis would be advantageous.
