Job Purpose:
‘Prevent’ is a part of the Government’s Counter – Terrorism Strategy, ‘Contest’. Its aim is to stop people supporting terrorism or becoming terrorists themselves.
The Prevent Supporting Families Project Officer will help to provide operational support in delivering the Prevent Programme within Brent.
This role is offered on a 1 year fixed term contract, with possibility of renewal.
1. To act as the lead officer in relation to Supporting Families with a view to reducing the risk and vulnerability in families where radicalisation has been identified as an issue.
2. To support families holistically, ensuring they are referred for wider support including 3rd sector organisations, children and adults services.
3. To support, and work closely, with key partner agencies involved in local Prevent delivery.
4. To build relationships with relevant organisations locally.
5. To manage a small intervention budget to assist families with training and counselling needs.
Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
1. Tailored engagement with families considered vulnerable to radicalisation including individuals referred to Channel, TACT offenders and their families.
2. Consult with and support vulnerable families, assessing support requirements and tailoring interventions as required
3. Maintain professional relationships with service users, providing relevant information, acting as a support worker and advocate
4. To act as a referral point for vulnerable families requiring support from non-statutory services
5. Undertake progress reports and make recommendations for wider statutory support where necessary

6. Organising and managing packages of support to enable service users to lead the fullest lives possible by mitigating vulnerabilities to radicalisation, extremism and other forms of harm and crime
7. Participating in multi-agency and cross border case conferences
8. Building close working relationships with internal council departments, such as the Youth Offending Service, Anti Social Behaviour, Early Help and Troubled Families Teams, alongside relevant service providers to deliver a seamless and “joined-up” approach to supporting vulnerable families.
9. Conduct engagement work alongside Prevent staff and relevant partners to increase understanding and commitment to programme delivery
10. Lead on the design and commissioning of future Prevent projects related to vulnerable families
11. Design discussion based projects and programmes of activity in conjunction with Early Help & Youth Offending Services
12. Support the Prevent team in engagement activities with local communities where appropriate, support or lead on wider regional and sub-regional Prevent activities related to vulnerable families
Meetings
13. Maintaining accurate records and preparing reports
14. Participating in training, supervision and team meetings
15. Produce reports and recommendations that are based on reliable and accurate information
16. Supporting Prevent Coordinator and wider Prevent Team with training, meetings and ad hoc duties as required
Training administration
17. Allocate and manage resources in line with objectives, and ensure value-for-money
18. Produce regular monitoring and evaluation reports for both the Local Authority and Home Office

Knowledge and Qualifications:
 Essential - Current and approved SC vetting status or above
 Essential – Experience of working with vulnerable groups within Probation, YOS, Social Care, Troubled Families, or similar setting
 Essential - Knowledge of partnership working across sectors, especially between local authorities and voluntary / community sector organisations
 Essential - Awareness of the Government’s PREVENT Strategy
 Essential – An understanding of children’s’ and adults’ safeguarding legislation
 Essential - Experience of engaging with hard to reach people/groups
 Desirable – Understanding of current affairs and how it might have an impact on those vulnerable to radicalisation  Desirable – additional language
Experience:
 Experience of working with statutory organisations
 Experience of working with community and voluntary sector organisations
 Experience of advocating for at risk, vulnerable individuals/ families
 Experience of escalating concerns through appropriate partners
 Experience of working independently
 Experience of delivering group programmes or training modules  Experience of supporting vulnerable families, assessing the support requirements and tailoring support packages accordingly

Skills and Abilities:
 Excellent IT skills (Outlook, Word and Excel essential)
 Excellent written and verbal communication
 Ability to work alone and as part of a team
