As an Engineer in the PrivateCloud VMware team you will be working within a team of over 50 VMware Engineers Globally to support our Customers who use our VMware fleet of 10,500+ Hosts + 85,000 VM’s. There will initially be a focus on legacy Adapt and Datapipe environments and a long term focus towards all Rackspace environments.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Works in a fast-paced environment where priorities shift quickly
  • Assumes responsibility for the smooth operation of mission critical customer solutions
  • Delivers BAU activities and shows a proactive approach to day to day work
  • Appropriately escalates issues accordingly, and uses the correct channels to do so
  • Is familiar with the available documentation that is in place to support troubleshooting
  • Supports the 24x7x365 operation of the business by being available for occasional out of hours work
  • Understands Incident and Change management for executing customer maintenances and troubleshooting
  • A requirement to be part of an on-call rota for Managed Backups (A minimum of 1 in 4)
  • A requirement to cover a shift pattern Tuesday thorugh to Saturday or Sunday through to Thursday.

Qualifications: 
 

  • Experience working with virtualization platforms running VMware Virtual Center and ESXi (5.5 6.0 6.5)
  • Experience deploying ESXi infrastructure and Virtual Center
  • Understanding of ESXi architecture and basic design principles and best practices for deploying ESXi infrastructure
  • Understanding of DR platforms using SRM/vRanger desirable but not essential
  • Experience executing maintenances on production VMware environments (Eg.VM resources changes, additional NICs configuration, ESXi upgrades)
  • Hands-on technical knowledge of VMware vSphere and Virtual Infrastructure, VMware Virtual Center, vSphere HA, vSphere DRS, vMotion, Storage vMotion, Standard Virtual Switches, Memory management on VMware esxi, Templates, Clones, Performance metrics, Storage connectivity principles, VMware Snapshots, Guest OS preparation
  • Experience working with SAN arrays in particular EMC and Netapp would be advantageous
  • Experience with Managed Backup Solutions such as Veritas Netbackup and Commvault also desirable but not essential
  • Linux or Windows server Guest OS management certification
  • Skills in Virtual Distributed Switches, Guest OS preparation, esxi troubleshooting at the OS level (command line), Automation tools, vSan, NSX, vROPS & SDDC is desirable
