Roxel is an Anglo-French Company that designs, develops and manufactures a range of solid propellant rocket motors for use in tactical missiles. Its operations are spread across several sites in the UK and France and it has an annual turnover of about £100M and 650 staff. The main UK operations are located at Summerfield near Kidderminster.

We currently have a permanent vacancy for a Commercial and Bid Manager.

The Commercial Manager is the key focus responsible for all contracts and commercial agreements and negotiations for Roxel UK with both Customers and Suppliers.   The Commercial Manager responsibility is to ensure that the highest professional standards of commercial practice are maintained to deliver the benefits of strong customer and supply chain management.   The Commercial Manager is also responsible for interfacing with customers and producing bids in accordance with the Roxel processes.

Key Responsibilities and Attributes

  • Responsible for the creation and management of commercial contracts in a robust and timely manner, ensuring commercial risks to Roxel UK are transparent, minimised and/or mitigated where possible.
  • Negotiation of Terms and Conditions, Non-Disclosure Agreements and other Contracting arrangements with Customers and Suppliers covering the supply of Materials and Services; and certify that bids to Customers that are underpinned with robust & valid Supplier quotations.
  • Support to the management of the Roxel Supplier base to include supplier selection and approval and Implementation of the Make/Buy policy in formulating Strategic Sourcing Framework
  • Commercial support to the development of Supplier Partnerships and creation of Long Term Agreements based upon sound contracting principles providing both incentives and penalties for Quality and Performance.
  • Manages the interfaces with customers and manages bids from strategy review to contract acceptance in line with the Roxel process and achieves a defined contribution to Roxel UK’s order intake.
  • Has a good working knowledge of MoD contracting methods and processes.
  • Updates and maintains all legal terms and conditions and standards relating to contracts
  • Acts as an expert and advises on Bids and Contracts to both the Purchasing and Sales and Marketing Departments.
  • Acts as Industry and legislative expert and attends appropriate training courses, conferences and associated events to ensure an up to date knowledge of commercial and legal practices.
  • Key interface with the external legal advisor.
  • Ensure compliance with company processes and policy for Procurement, Statutory Legal Obligations, Ethical Standards and corporate governance relating to procurement and all International trading legislation and controls associated with materials and products.
  • Supports customers in understanding our proposals, payment plans, milestones, liaising with bid project managers via project plans, risk registers as appropriate. 
  • Feeds into 5-10 business plan and contributes to future position growth
  • Undertakes any additional responsibilities as required by business requirements.

Key Competences and Qualifications

The successful candidate will be:-   

  • Experienced in negotiating MoD contracts
  • A team player with the ability to deal confidently and professionally with both internal colleagues and external customers at all levels.
  • An excellent communicator with the ability to competently conduct meetings/presentations at all levels within the business and with external customers.
  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of contractual matters and be willing to develop this competency in line with business practices.
  • Able to develop a sound understanding of internal and external customer bid processes.
  • Of an enthusiastic, energetic, flexible and dedicated disposition coupled with a desire to develop and utilise new and current skills to the benefit of the business.
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.  Experience in bidding for engineering/manufacturing contracts would be an advantage.
  • Willing to travel mainly in the UK as the need arises with overnight stays as required.  There may be a small amount of European travel.
  • Able to show a demonstrable knowledge at Intermediate/Advanced level in Microsoft suite of IT products.
  • Able to contribute positively to the business improvement process
